Ohio - Federal prosecutors have charged a Lodi chiropractor with
billing more than $1 million for equipment, boots, braces and other
treatments that patients did not need or were billed improperly. John
Heary, 37, was charged with 38 counts of health care fraud, 9 counts of
mail fraud and 8 counts of paying illegal kickbacks. The
indictments allege the illegal payments were in connection with the
operation of Heary's corporations that included HealthSource of Medina
and Medina Health and Wellness Center, Inc. In addition, the
indictment alleges Heary billed the Ohio Bureau of Worker's
Compensation, Medical Mutual of Ohio and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue
Shield for patient therapy that was either never provided or should have
been billed at a lower amount. An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt.
