Henry McClain Shawn Marshall Lending Tree Personal Unsecured Loan Scam Brokklyn Nationwide
*Consumer Comment: Lending Tree is NOT a lender
Applied through Lending Tree and recevied an email with a loan approval for $10K at 5% interest, saying that no credit check was necessary and all I had to do was call and verify information. Called the number and spoke with Shawn and his junior officer (name I could not understand). After verifying some personal information was told that I needed to go to any Walmart, Walgreens or CVS and while on the phone with Shawn, wire $50 to fund my account with the loan. I have searched high and low to find out who these "loan officers" who claim to be from Lending Tree are and can not find anything legit.

Lending Tree is NOT a lender

Lending Tree is not a lender. Lending Tree does not have loan officers. They sell your information to various companies to offer you a loan. In their words they "connect" lenders with borrowers. Some of the companies are legitimate and some are not (based on your post).
Any lender that requires you to pay a fee upfront before you get the loan through Walmart, Walgreens or CVS or Money Gram or even Western Union is a scammer and not a legitimate lender. Do not do business with anyone that requires a fee upfront through a non-traceable source because if you do, you are going to get scammed. Check the FTC.gov website to learn the red flags to spot a scammer.
It is disturbing that Lending Tree does not screen their lenders that participate in the program so that the scammers have equal access to the potential borrowers. That means we, as consumers, have to do our own screening.
