Heritage car warranty will only buy me a used part. I can't get anyone to install a used part so their insurance is of no use. Their comment is that they have to do the most economical thing for them, which means to me they don't take care of their customers if it costs them money. The new part costs $500 and the used part costs them $114. but has no value to me. Isn't that interesting....

Remember that when you buy your car warranty.

it is common to repair cars with used parts. depending on the age of the automobile. just as with auto body repairs, or an appliance.

#1 UPDATE Employee

I feel sorry for you.

AUTHOR: Curt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 20, 2006

I am an employee of the independent company hired to administer the Heritage Line Of Contracts. This type of issues came about just recently as Heritage told us we had to see what was in the aftermarket if it was over 100.00. It has been a hassle for us because it holds up approving claims and takes up our time having to search for them.

Granted, I can see their point when a dealer tries to sell you a window/regulator motor assembly that is 500.00 because the motor shorted and the only way to get the motor is buying the new updated assembly. This is untrue. The regulator is an updated regulator an the only way to replace the regulator is to buy the updated motor that the new regaultor fits. What they dont tell you is that if it is the motor, not the regulator that fails, the motor can be sold for 84.00. The dealers want to make a huge profit by lying to the consumer. The reason they were updated was because the previous versions were garbage, and the new ones are no better. Same with fuel sending units, they come separately from the fuel pump, buy unless you knew better the will try and sell you a 600.00 fuel pump module, because a 115.00 part failed. Why? Because its easy to make a 300% profit for the dealer rather than a 40 %.

Heritage in all reality for the longest was taken advantage of by the dealers and lied to. They got tired of it. I am in no way defending heritage, but I understand. Per the terms of the VSC it states that a vehicle's parts that are listed for coverage can and will be replaced with either, new, used, like kind quality or remanufactured parts. It does state it in plain text, not in fine print and it was your dealers responsibility to have gone over that with you. I really and truly feel bad for you because you think one thing and another is being done.

These are the facts, that part they were wanting to sell you carried a 12/12000 mile warranty. The cheaper one we had to find also carried a 12/12000 mile warranty from the manufacturer. If you were the carrier, what would you do? If you really want to know the truth, there are places such as Firestone, Pepboys, and Goodyear that install aftermarket parts on vehicles because the dealer marks them up too high to sell to the customer. I would suggest calling one of them, because just like the dealer, they will carry a 12/12000 mile warranty on the labor too. Most Service Advisors are complete idiots, and most parts managers are absolute crooks. I dont agree with the whole using of used parts thing, and if I were still in the shop, I wouldn't use them either, but reman parts that carry a warranty should be no problem.

Thank you
