When my boyfriend and I decided to move from Michigan to Arizona, I got several calls on quotes from moving companies. Once I spoke to Paul from Home Street Movers, I automatically booked them because he was honest with me and gave me helpful tips on how to save costs when the movers get to my apartment. I put down a deposit, a portion will be required at time of pick up and the rest will be required at delivery.....GREAT!

My delivery date was scheduled for december 16th...they didn't come till the 17th and I had a 2 hour notice. They came at 9:30pm and did not leave until after 1am. Keep in mind, we packed EVERYTHING and wrapped it up for them to "make their lives easier." When the two guys came, they loaded our stuff and then presents me with a revised bill which was a lot more than my initial estimate. In the contract with Home Street Movers it states that "if you have not signed the mover's revised estimate, and the mover loads the truck, then Federal regulation requires that the mover has reaffirmed the original estimate and cannot demand additional payment at delivery for the additional items."

Not only do I find out that the guys that are picking up my items are not from Home Street Movers, but from a company called Moving Cross Country, Inc/DBA Straight Forward Moving......he gives me the revised estimate AFTER they loaded our stuff. They did not let us see the weight before, or after loading, nor did he let us see HOW they loaded. He told me if I signed NON BINDING, then I'm not bound to that revised cost...so I signed. Big mistake!

January 11, 2014...25 DAYS after they picked up our stuff, they get to Arizona....in an 18 wheeler that does not fit in my apartment complex...so I had to go rent a uhaul unless I wanted to get charged an extra $400 for them to get a shuttle service. Since I refused to pay the additional amount that they charged me, but agreed to pay original contracted amount, the owner of Moving Cross Country did not allow the driver to unload my stuff. It wasn't until I called the police did the owner told the driver that if I paid $600, he can unload my items.

I paid him the $600 and when the drivers unloaded our items I was shocked......My boyfriends heirloom dining room table and chairs were completely broken. Half of our boxes were crush....which means that everything in them was crushed as well. Keep in mind that these boxes were labeled "FRAGILE". Apparently they dont know how to read. These items were very valuable and cannot be replaced. Also, in the contract it says that they will unload our items.....which they did not. I hope I find a good attorney because I plan on bringing these companys down.
