I found Houngan Steve after a search for a qualified vodou practitioner to help me with some problems I was having. When we first spoke, I found him very warm and engaging, and I looked forward to working with him.
He suggested a divinatory reading to determine what would work best for my situation. I was having problems in my love life and I was also looking for a remedy for the deep depression that has plagued me my whole life, often resulting in suicide attempts.
Houngan Steve did the reading and seemed thorough and responsive (though there is some division within the vodou community about whether one's met tet can be determined through a tarot reading over the phone). While his results were not what I wanted to hear, I respected him for giving them. I had a very high opinion of Houngan Steve until the aftermath.
He contacted me a few weeks after the reading to see how I was. Since it had been some time since we discussed proposed work, I wanted to tell him then that I had decided it was not the right time for me to do the work. I told him that it was nothing personal, but that I had my doubts because similar spiritual work performed in the past had yielded no results.
What follows is actual correspondence between myself and Houngan Steve. It is his final email that so concerns me and has made me want to advise everyone away from working with him.
Keep in mind that he sent this to me, someone he knew to have suicidal tendencies.

The first email, sent in reponse to me saying I had chosen not to do the work:
As your self if you want to get well, be honest, if you do, with your own consent you may through the assistance of your Holy Guardian Angel, be honest because if you do not wish to get well you must study and explore your self destructive nature, come to grips with that while selecting a more positive approach to you active participation in self regeneration and healing.
The choice is yours I am merely here to help you but you must do your own part while stepping out of your own self denial. Let me know if you are ready to step into your future, as I am here to assist you the choice is yours.

I took umbrage with that for the reasons I gave above--I felt that he was implying that if I wasn't working with him, then I wasn't fully stepping into my future, etc. I wrote back to him:
While I can understand the value of recommending spiritual work to further my healing, I think it's a bit unfair to say that I must not want to get better simply because I don't believe a certain work performed at a certain time is the right thing for me to do. In fact, it seems like blackmail more than a sensitive recommendation designed to further healing. You haven't met me; you don't know how hard I'm working to improve my situation. You only know I have not, at this time, chosen to do your suggested work, and yet, you still feel comfortable saying I am in self-denial and not ready to step into the future. I do not speak with the Lwa; I have not been initiated. But I know that the Lwa also speak to other initiates who are able to speak to me with less self-righteousness, less manipulation, and more compassion. Should I choose to do this sort of work, I will surely be working with one of those individuals who won't bully and pressure me into a certain choice that does not feel right.
That's what I said in response. I now realize that I probably did misinterpret the message somewhat, though I would also say that his confusing writing style played a part in that. To a certain extent, I think whether or not there was a misunderstanding was irrelevant. If there were a misunderstanding, then I think the professional response would have been to write back that there had been a misunderstanding and then to clear it up. I'm also not saying I wasn't somewhat harsh, but, again, there's a way to handle it that is professional and a way that is not professional. Here is his response, though I will clarify that the "few measly bucks" was $250 (and that was just for the first part). Judge for yourself.

I never said your desire was not strong enough but merely that if you found it was not to explore the reason why. I simply took concern and time to try to answer your last e-mail, believe me I get paid much more than what I had mentioned to charge you for my time and efforts and thus have no need to manipulate you for a few mesely bucks.
That is not my goal as my Lwa are my witness. You are free to go to any other practitioner, I myself am swamped with much work by many appreciative wealthy clients. i DO NOT NEED YOU!
You should be a little more respectful of Vodou Priest's who have your best interest at heart rather than insulting them with your disrespect. It was you who told me no other practitioner could help you.
INSULTING A VODOU PRIEST YOUNG LADY IS NOTHING BUT BAD KARMA, AS YOU WILL COME TO UNDERSTAND.
You have insulted my sincere effort to assist you and I regret that I took my valuable time to be concerned for you, as my Lwa are my witness.
You do need some training in the correct proto cal o dealing with elder initiates as your approach is very disrespectful and rude.
Please do not contact me any more you have insulted not only myself but my Priesthood and family Lwa, but then this karmic debt is NOW yours.

Mambo Racine is a liar and a fraud. She claims no one was there when she kanzoed into Haitian Voodoo. More , she claims the man who preformed her kanzo is dead. She is a Fake and ALL her god children have been SCAMMED or are scammers themselves.

About three years ago, I had an extremely positive experience with Houngan Steve. Actually, he was wonderfully nice and compassionate and explained that my fiance and I had a death curse put on us. He was very accurate in what he was telling us that was happening, so I decided to risk the money -- just in case.
I invested about $700 to have him help us. He worked with us almost daily for a month to remove the curse. He had originally said that it would take 30 days. On the 30th day, we learned that my fiance had a deep vein thrombosis that had been overlooked by his doctors. He got treated and is doing well today! As for me, I have no idea what would have happened to me but I believe he chased some really demonic spirits away from us!

My first dealing with Houngan Steve was in January, 2006 for love problems. I broke off with my BF. I was traumatized/sad/depressed/desperate. He did a reading for me & told me stuff that left me speechless about my boyfriend/My family/me. It had a point of accuracy that was astounding...NEVER had I encountered such accuracy anywhere in Cali. I trusted him so much..he advised me to Western Union $1380 to him. I did it with no question. What I did not notice was that he was a GREAT psychic/obi shell reading....but NO GOOD at magic! He lied and told me that he could reunite my ex BF with me.
I fell for his crap/lies/scam...after I paid him the money..he picked it up and ignored me for 3 months as he said that he was DOING WORK for me. I tried calling him/emailing him to no avail. After 3 months he suddenly appeared out of nowhere asking me for another $750. I was desperate and sent him the money. AGAIN NO RESULT. He ignored me for another 2 months. Reappearing only to ask for more money -- this time another $850. When you are heart broken you do the dumbest things...as always believe there is HOPE somewhere...someone out there can help you get back with your boyfriend. I Western Unioned $850 to him again. By this time I was suspicious that something was UP. Just not sitting right. Sick & tired of paying HUGE amounts of money with NO RESULT.
Should have known he was nothing but a SCAM. Than Houngan Steve told me to pay him $300 for 3 readings he had to do to see what other blockages was in the way. After that he told me some more stuff..f*cking accurate too! I was IMPRESSED and listened to what he had to say. He told me that he saw a LOT of obstacles in my BF/me reuniting. It would cost $8,650 to do away with the guy's parents/Uncles/Aunts/friends/Grandparents/Siblings/THE WORLD. Also, If I could wire him another $500 for a special "prayer" he needed to do on my behalf. $800 to please the goddess of love buying her a gold necklace, $300 for a drum dance he needed to do before the full moon, $1,320 to repeat the first spell he casted that ran into some complications, another $600 for a jar filled with honey and spices. And another $900 for feeding the spirits with alcohol, candy & flowers.
Man, he sure knew how to milk money out of people.
By this time, things were beginning to sound ridiculous & really F*CKING STUPID. He most probably thought that I was Bill Gates/Donald Trumps daughter or that I sh*tted money out of my rectum every day/ or had a money tree/golden goose. Even kids with rich parents don't have the amount of money he was asking me for every couple days.
The money he asked for was too insane. I could not afford it. Due to his false/empty promises my depression/anxiety attacks caused me to loose my job. I was a doctor prior to meeting Houngan Steve. The hardships I went through with him caused me great harm/financial loss/emotional damage.
I was DESPERATE to get my BF back! didn't know anyone else that could help me. I cried. I was depressed. I was scared. Nearly sold my house to pay him.
Conclusion : Later I stumbled across a yahoo groups message board and there was like a couple dozen people posting about Houngan Steve Marich -- he screwed tham all. They all seemed intelligent people who also had been lied to/scammed...To my shock & horror found out that Houngan Steve is a CON-ARTIST/LIAR/THIEF/FAKE VOODOO Houngan.....he is NOT even intiated properly in Voodoo. He & his house mother, Mambo Racine are NOTHING....but grease monkeys..that go from place to place scamming. They DO NOT care about their clients mental well being/no ethics/no morals/cruel heartless dishonest person.
I confronted him. He wrote me the sme dumb emails as the one received from the lady in the above post. He told me that If I did not pay him the $5,650....his personal spirits would harm me. It is bad karma not to pay him because he is a ASOGWE HOUNGAN.
What more can he do to me....he already destroyed me. Lied to me. Scammed me. Took all my life savings. I had to sell my car to pay him. I lost my job. I lost my self confidence. I did not get my boyfriend back. He lied to me -- built my hopes/dreams up & NO RESULT. I'm left bitter/hateful/angry/sad.
He called me a psychotic b*tch that needed psychiatric help..not spellcasting services when I told him that I will NEVER pay him another penny for spell work that DOES NOT WORK.. My god..when I was paying Houngan Steve money why in hells name he did not call me a psychotic b*itch. I was 'sane" back than -- as soon as I woke up to his scams/lies....suddenly I'm psychotic? hello?
At the end of the day it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY MONEY MONEY when it comes to Houngan Steve! My experiences with him makes me wonder about human nature. Do people like him have a conscience? How can anyone go home and sleep at night knowing that they lied/scammed/cheated money out of a poor person. I'm aware that everyone has to earn a living..but why can't he
I have woken up now..realised that ALL these FAKE spellcasters/psychics/whatever else they choose to call themselves are ALL SCAMMERS. They don't give a fig about anyone. They walk to the bank/Western Union post smiling & counting the money.
