IDPROSUP.COM bank fraud

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 19, 2008

I have also been victimized by IDPROSUP.COM (at least that's what shows up on my bank statement, which thankfully I check daily online and noticed their fraudulent charge immediately and filed a fraud affidavit the same day).

At first, I traced down the source of this fraud to ID Safeguards (8625 SW Cascade Avenue, Beaverton, OR 97008). While they were not the company that directly performed the withdrawal, the companies are apparently related in some way. A representative there, Shannon, reachable at (503)726-4529 x108 offered to help, claiming that the charges were done by some company called IISB, but her assistance seemed to be pointless as no refund ever came of this.

Further investigation revealed that the company responsible for this charge is Identity Theft Support, located at 5025 North Central Avenue, Suite 630, Phoenix, AZ 85012. They can be reached at 866-883-4987 (as indicated in the original post). I contacted a representative by phone and via their online system in an attempt to recoup the money stolen from my checking account.

I was told by the online representative, Josh, that I had to fax a police report to 213-291-8170 (I'm not even sure that the police would even take a report for $32). I was told by the phone representative, Bill, that "your account will not be charged for any additional months of this service" and every time I reiterated that I wanted a refund he repeated the same sentence. So I said, "What am I mis-communicating here? I want a refund." after which I was subsequently told that this is a "non-refundable charge". Yet, shockingly, the company is entirely unable to provide me with any written statement bearing my signature authorizing them to withdraw money from my checking account to begin with - fancy that.

My best recommendation is to watch your bank accounts vigilantly (which people in today's day and age should do anyway). I immediately filed a fraud report with the bank, so I suspect I should have a credit back to my account soon. This is beside the point. This company took money from my account with out my (either implicit or explicit) permission, and certainly without any signed documentation permitting them to perform an electronic draft against my account.

I would also *strongly* encourage any victim of this scam to contact the Federal Trade Commission (and if they'll take a report, your local police department). If 100 people get victimized for $32 apiece, this company pockets over $3,000. If those same 100 people file reports with the FTC, then let's hope our tax money gets put to some good use and they shut this place down immediately. I have personally filed my report with the FTC, and I have also filed a report with the BBB in their area, and I have the fraud affidavit from my bank. I will be faxing the FTC and BBB reports to the fax number they provided first thing Monday morning. I'd have to guess that given the nature of this crime to begin with that it's probably unwise to fax them anything bearing any additional banking information (e.g. the fraud report).
