Ikariam is an online video game by the German company GameForge AG.

I started playing Ikariam about 18 months ago.  I spent $120 towards upgrades in the game (the purchase of "ambrosia" - an in-game currency).

My grilfriend (who lives with me) started playing about a month ago, to spend more time with me.

We were both banned from the game because I had sent her supplies to help her get started.  Note that you're allowed to help others in the game - only not if they're playing from the same computer (to prevent cheating / multi-accounting).

We submitted much proof that we were two individuals playing from one computer, but GameForge did not budge on their decision.  They also refused to refund the balance of ambrosia on my account, and refused to transfer it to a new account.

IMPORTANT points in this case:

1. The rule we were banned for was quite ambiguous, and I have never broken another rule in the 18 months I've played the game.

2. They permanently banned the accounts *without a single warning* that we were breaking the rule.

3. They told us we could create new accounts, which is contradictory to the "permanent ban".

4. ****They refused to refund*** the balance of purchased virtual currency.  This equates to theft or fraud.

BE CAREFUL PLAYING THIS GAME.  THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY - LOTS OF IT (EVEN THOUGH THE GAME CLAIMS TO BE FREE).

Your own fault

Since you felt the need to put this here twice, I'll just copy and paste my previous response here again too:

"We didn't realize that Gameforge had a rule in place that disallowed people who play from the same computer to help each other in the game."

In other words it's your own fault for not bothering to read the rules OR the Terms and Conditions.  Yes, I agree the T&C is filled with all kinds of legal stuff that no one ever bothers to read, but the rules of the game are posted in simple to understand English where everyone can read them.  It's even the FIRST d**n rule listed.  It even says you need to notify a GameOperator BEFORE you get banned.  Why would you play a game without reading the rules anyway?  In the 1.5 years you played you never once thought to read them?  Also, the multi account rule is pretty much standard across every
Gameforge game.

"I had a balance of "ambrosia", the Ikariam currency, in my account that they banned.  This "ambrosia" has cash value.  They refused to return it to me."

Again, those T&C you agreed to when you started playing AND when you agreed to pay them money for the ambrosia states that you will not get a refund.  This isn't some kind of unique rule ether.  Any game that you pay to play will not refund your money if you get banned.  You admit to breaking the rules and getting banned for it.  I see no problem here.
I've been a customer of Gameforge for years now and never had any problems with payment or getting banned in any game I've played.  Which includes Ikariam.
