My credit card was also fraudulently charged by IT EAuctions. Along with nine other charges from companies such as People PC, Blockbuster, Gamefly. I have never done business in any form with these companies, so of them I've never even heard of. The credit card has never left my possession and is rarely used as I was trying to pay it off, which I accomplished about a week before all these charges appeared.

I did receive product from one of the companies and when I called them they said I enrolled in their club online. Of course I didn't join their club, as a matter of fact I was on vacation without access to the internet on the date I supposedly enrolled.

The other companies seem to have me home address (as it appears on my credit card statement) and telephone number. People PC calls me everyday even though I keep telling them the charges were fraudulent and they obtained my name ect. illegally.

The bank credited me for these charges although they will not release me from liability for the charges. Not exactly sure what that means. They also will not share the results of their investigation with me because it's against policy. The told me to file a police report for ID theft, however I don't feel I was a victim of ID theft since no other account have been affected.

Does anyone know how this type of activity occurs? If my credit card number had been stolen, why would these companies have my mailing address on file? Wouldn't the thief have the product shipped to another address? I firmly believe that my credit card number/personal information was compromised by the bank. It may have been a breach in their security system, a disgruntled employee or perhaps a problem with the direct marketing.

I'm not looking for the name of who is responsible (as the bank seems to think), just an explanation of how this happened so I can better protect myself from fraud in the future. Do consumers not have any rights anymore? If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would certainly like to hear them.
