I went to this Pompano Beach JCPenny to purchase some jeans for my husband. He seen them in an advertisement and asked me to pick them up. I work for Sears and could get jeans probably cheaper with my discount but he wanted these jeans so I went there while on my lunch break. I found the jeans I needed very quickly. I went to the nearest cashier to pay and handed him my visa debit card. He ran the card and it came back denied. I called my bank in front of him to find out why. I found there was no problem with my account and there was plenty of money in it. Just in case, the bank asked that I go ahead and write a check for the purchase.

I asked the cashier if a check was okay for the purchase and he said that was fine. I filled out the check and produced my driver's license for the purchase. The cashier refused to run the check because the address on the check did not match the address on my license. I told him that I work for a competator and it was never a problem before. He refused to even try to run it stating that it would be declined anyway. I asked to talk to a manager and he said there were none available.

I called my banker back and asked if the address on my license caused problems with writing a check. She said no. The only thing needed for a check was the number on my license and that the cashier should run it.

I told the cashier this and he just plain refused to put it through the cash register.

No longer worth the effort, I shredded the check and left. I will never shop there again. I obviously had plenty of money for the purchase. There may have been a problem with my card at the time but I used it 10 minutes later at Sears to buy him the jeans with no problem. I think there was a problem with JCPenny's modem when uploading account information that day and the cashier did not care enough to try another method of payment. I used to work for JCPenny years and years ago and have never seen such bad customer service in my time there or in any other retail company. I only went there as a request for a certain brand and color my husband wanted that Sears did not carry. I found out quickly that staying where I shop all the time is a much better idea than going somewhere else!

That's Funny

Someone who works for sears, taking about how bad the service is at jcpenny? Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black. Got a credit card in '78 from sears. Worked for sears for a couple of years and Mom worked for them for 17 years, before she passed away. Few years back, THEIR service got so bad, cut up the credit card and only go back every year or so just to see if they still suck. jcpenny isn't much better either.

Go in there maybe once or twice a year. Use to buy $2 or $3,000 a year from sears. Now many $50 to $100 a year. Now my money goes to Foley's(Macey's), Dillard's, Home Depot or independants. My wife and granddaughter prefer jcp for clothes over sears.
