I purchased a Whirlpool Dishwasher at Sears on May 23, 2011.  Warranty was for one year.  When the dishwasher was a little over one year and a half.....the washer would start and then after 15 minutes stop....a red light...cancel would come on and it would drain and stop.

I called Whirlpool and they scheduled a repairman in my area to fix it.  He came on 1/14 and could not find a problem.   He said it might just be an air bubble, etc..   I paid $89.00 for the trip and he said if it is not working again, he will come back and I would not have to pay the $89 again.

As soon as he left, I put some dishes in the washer and started it and it did the same thing that I called the repair for.  I immediately made another appointment for him to come back today (1/18)
He had me go out to the garage and turn the breaker off and then wait and come back in.  I did that and he continued to be puzzled that it had the same problem.

He then told me, it must be the Main Control Board which is very expensive.  I told him that was not fair as the washer is not that old.  He told me to contact Whirlpool and left.

I called and explained and the woman on the other end had me hold while she checked to see if it was a recall, etc.    She said it was not and the part would be $155.00 plus labor, etc.  When I objected, she said I could either get it fixed or buy a new one.

I then called Sears where I bought it.  I was told the same thing there.  Either get it fixed or buy a new one.   I will never buy another Whirlpool item again!

warranty guidelines

I appreciate that a warranty is a year. Also,in my case and maybe this one, there are unusual circumstances. I my case it cost 116.00 for a washing machine repair. It is only my wife and I doing about 2 loads a week. Is this the normal use?  Not in my opinion.. it is under use.

Doesn't really matter what you buy...

I repair appliances for a side job, all makes and models and they all have one thing in common...JUNK! Everything is made cheap and flimsy now days, and your story I hear all the time...."after the warranty, blah, blah, blah". You can spend $400 or $1400+, don't matter because it's junk! When shopping for appliances look for the best warranty and ALWAYS buy the extended warranty on front load washers!

Sometimes things break after the warranty has expired.   When this happens, you should expect to pay to have it repaired.

It is unreasonable to expect to receive warranty coverage after the warranty is over.   If the manufacturer wanted to cover repairs for "just over a year and a half", then the warranty would have stated that.   Instead, it states that it covers the dishwasher for one year.   You have stated this yourself, so I'm having trouble seeing why you don't understand it.
