K Hovnanian has ruined our new home building experience, and ruined the joy of having a new home. We purchased our home September 10, 2004. It is now August, 2005 and we have just begun the move-in process. I would be ashamed to work for this horrible company.

After purchasing our home in September, we began to clear our lot in October and it was not until January when we were called to sit down with a preconstruction advisor regarding the plans of our home. The plans were wrong. The Regional Sales manager who sold us on the home had omitted several key items of our home. We had to take out an additional and substantial loan to cover those items.

We finally started the build on our home in March of 2005. By May of 2005 the person who sold us the home, the preconstruction advisor and our primary foreman had all left the company. We had a horrible time conveying exactly what we wanted in the home because of the turnover of employees within this company. This report does not even begin to describe our experience with this less than professional company.

We requested that we be able to pour a concrete pad instead of having our A/C unit bolted to the side of our family room wall. Our first foreman told us we would have ample notice. The third foreman advised us in one afternoon that we had to pour the pad. After my husband had missed a day of work to finish the task, it took KHOV 2 weeks to install the A/C!

Our foreman also told us that this company ALWAYS bolts A/C units to homes, then why is it when you visit their model that their A/C unit is on a poured pad? Practice what you preach.

Our flooring was delivered wrong and took a month to correct. We had to battle to get electric hooked up to the home because we were told that the installers would not put in flooring until perm electric was installed. According to our foreman, becuse of the "confusion" they would go the extra mile and help us out, gee thanks. But we were to buy extra line to be installed from the street to the home, that we were unaware of to begin with.

Our $3,000 picture window was delivered wrong and we are still waiting on it's replacement trim. The first exterior trim was nailed in place with finish nails. You can imagine how nice it looks. Both the interior and exterior were measured wrong and the trim work has never arrived to fit correctly.

Our $3,500 oak foyer staircase looks like crap. At the top of the stairs, the corner piece of trim work was split but installed anyway. It was fixed with glue. Nice. It's obvious that it's the same piece of wood and it's the first thing you see when you round the stairs to the top foyer.

Our floors groan. Our A/C makes a horrible rattling noise. One kitchen cabinet door was wrong, so it was reordered, now we have holes on the other side where the old cabinet was screwed in. It was evidentally too much for the foreman to fill in the holes and now we have ugly cabinets. I would have expected an entire new cabinet so it looks nice, but that's not the way this company operates.

Our tray ceiling in the dining area was wrong. It had to be sanded down and refinished.

The electricians also drilled 45 holes, and no I am not exaggerating, around the perimeter of our laundry room 3 weeks ago *looking* for a wire that was never found. Now we are left to sand and repaint it all.

Lastly, but certainly not least, the workers KHOV hires are hogs. We provided sodas to workers on a daily basis. Our thank-you was the first time my husband was trying to locate a 5 gallon paint bucket. Well, he found it in the back yard, filled with human waste. The second thank-you, we found another 5 gallon bucket in our garage filled with human waste just last night. Who knows how long that filth has been in our space. It's just disgusting. I am apalled.

Now, you may think it's appropriate to use this disposal method. But not when you are building right across from a restaurant and 1/2 mile down the road from several fast food establishments. My pets have better manners than these workers.

This company should be ashamed of the way our build was handled. We expressed our anger and disgust throughout the project.

Everytime we had a question or didn't like something, we asked what could be done and we were told to continue to sign off on the bank draws and the problems would be resolved before the end of the build.

Now, this goes against everything I know about building a home. We did resist and sure enough, they stopped construction. And then they would not fix our problems until we signed off on the bank draw! It's a lose-lose situation if you are the customer with these people.

When we finally sat down to close our home we refused to be listed for a referral. When the closer questioned us we explained our entire experience. He only apologized and said he wished he had been involved sooner. He said that the company had failed us and we had got caught in the middle of a corporate changeover. That's it. That was his apology for a year's worth of hell. Whatever. How lame.

I would NEVER EVER recommend this company to anyone. It is true that their home prices are a little below that of a custom builder. But if we had to do it again, we would go elsewhere. It's not worth saving a buck. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for". If you have started your build with these people. GOOD LUCK, you're going to need it!

We experienced horrible customer service, a severe employee turnover rate, disgusting workers, and a total disregard for finishing the project on a timely basis. I can only imagine the horrible time we will have should something go wrong within the home now that we have closed our project.
