On January 18,2006,I found an ad in my local newspaper for employment at Lynnes Nissan of Bloomfield, NJ, and after visiting and being interviewed by MR. KEN PREFLING, I was told that he was teaching a two day training for the car salesperson position. On January 19,2006, I attended the first day of training, and MR PREFLING told the class that there was a fee for the training and lifetime placement, in the amount of $589, to be paid by cash or money order, and a contract that we had to sign stating that the amount would be refunded after THREE MONTHS.

Even though Mr. Prefling assured the class that all 8 of us would be hired, Lynnes Nissan only hired 3 people from the class. We all were given the phone number to the placement director of the company, SANDY McCELLUND, in which I contacted for more interviews at other car dealerships. After two unsuccesful attempts at gaining employment, I did however, gain employment in another field.

By April 20,2006, exactly three months after I gave up the $589, I immediately called SANDY McCELLUND to find out exactly when my money was going to be sent to me. She told me that she would have MR. PREFLING call me with that info. When I didn't receive the call, I call her again. On April 25,2006, I called SANDY McCLELLUND again, and again she could not give me any straight answers, except that MR. KEN PREFLING would call me with the info.

I still have not received a call from KEN PREFLING or SANDY McCLELLUND or a dime of my hard earned money. They have contact information and it has not changed.

Rebuttal Update

AUTHOR: Sandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 16, 2008

In further researching this incident with Mia, we found that she was set up on interviews with a number of dealers in her area. She refused to go on anymore interviews and wanted her money back. If she would have gone on the interviews and not been selected by the dealers. we would have refunded her money, but she refused to go and demanded her money back. If we cannot get you placed at another dealership, we will refund your money in full.

False and Misleading Advertising is where Preferred Marketing and Training get their money

AUTHOR: Pete - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 19, 2008

Ok, here's how I went through this with the other 6 people that Ken Prefling was trying to rip off:

1. I saw an ad saying "Wright Automotive Group Now Hiring in Three Locations, $3,000 training salary and ask about our $5,000 sign on bonus."

The $3,000 training was completely false, and the $5,000 sign on bonus was absolutely misleading. The deal is that you get $5,000 if you were a car salesman last year that grossed $70,000 or more.

However, the advertisement doesn't say that, it says, "No experience neccessary." Than it says, "Ask about $5,000 signing bonus." I don't think it gets anymore misleading than that.

2. It says Wright automotive group hiring for for three locations on the top and doesn't mention Preferred Marketing and Training anywhere. And I mean anywhere, not even in the small print. So i assumed the training was being done by Wright Automotive group, however its not, its done by a man named Ken Prefling who wants $600 from you to work in a tough industry.

So right off the bat during the first day of training, lets clear up a few things here that are blatantly false:
A. Wright Automotive Group isn't doing the training
B. There is no $3,000 for the training.
C. You must pay $600 dollars for training and placement.
D. There is no actual job fair, and half the employees at Wright Automotive don't even know about it. (I had to ask two different people to actually get to the interview).

Part A. continued:

Wright Automotive and Preferred Marketing and Training are 2 complete separate entities. Thats where its most confusing, because it doesn't mention Preferred Marketing and Training anywhere in the ad. Under the big title Wright Automotive Group it says, "We need 15 highly motivated individuals (males and females) to learn the art of auto sales to earn BIG MONEY."

Supposedly what happens is Wright Automotive Group brings in Preferred Marketing and Training to recruit and train individuals to work for them.

So, Wright needs 15 individuals, but some of their employees don't even know there's a job fair? And only six people show up for the actual training? Mr. Prefling actually stated that he interviewed 21 people but only the six of us were qualified enough to make it to training. So only six of us were qualified enough to give you $600 to work in one of the toughest industries. Wow, lucky us. Funny thing about this is that there weren't any people at wright auto waiting to be interviewed when i showed up. And after the first day of training I talked to everyone in the class and they said the exact same thing.

Part B. continued:

Ok, so here's how they figure in the $3,000 dollars for training. You supposedly get paid $375 for the first 90 days of work and that equals out to be roughly $3,000 I guess. They don't tell you this in the ad, and this is where it gets confusing because of the false advertising they used. After my 5 minute interview with Mr. Prefling, he told me to show up at 10 am the next day for TRAINING. His company is called Preferred Marketing and TRAINING. He said, "Can you be here the next two days from 10-4 for TRAINING. The ad said $3,000 TRAINING salary. Not $3,000 for your first 90 days of work.

Part C. and D. continued:

So towards the middle of the first day of TRAINING, you find out you're not getting paid $3,000 dollars you're actually paying Mr. Prefling and his company $600, for a work manual, placement, and wisdom from a man that will last your lifetime! What a deal! I can run home to ma and pa and tell them I paid some guy $600 to get me a job being a car salesman which I've never done before in my life, and have no idea where and if I'll get placed.

This is the point where you can really start to see through the garbage. Ok, so lets go back to one of my previous points, Preferred Marketing and TRAINING (sorry I can't stop highlighting how blatantly false that $3,000 training is), and Wright Automotive Group are complete separate entities. So Mr. Ken Prefling kindly asks for you to come the next day and make the check out to none other than, "Mr. Ken Prefling." Not to wright automotive, to some guy named Ken, for all I know, Wright Automotive isn't even aware of a man named Ken Prefling (they probably do but how would I know).

Mr. Prefling also goes on to say that you'll get half that money back by reimbursement from Wright after 90 days, then the other half after 180 days. Ken tells me that it shows to wright automotive that I am committed to working there (couldn't of just committed to signing the basic contract like everyone does with a job). So I show I am committed to working at Wright Automotive Group by giving some weird man $600 that has no association to Wright Automotive Group whatsoever. Of course that makes sense Mr. Prefling, let me write out that check for you right now.

So at the end of the day, after listening to Mr. Prefling make fun of my girlfriend and my uncle for being skeptical of the car sales industry, then seeing Mr. Preffling discriminate against two older people saying that they should be able to come up with $600 easily because they are old and should have the money, I've made the remarkable clear-headed decision along with my other TRAINEEs that I am definitely not coming back for the second day of TRAINING that I'm supposed to pay $600 for.

In these already hard times, I believe Preferred Marketing and Training owes me the gas money I spent driving back and forth to Wexford, PA, and $1,500 because I went through half of the two day training. I wasted my time and money based on a false ad I saw in the paper.

I have decided to pursue legal action against both Wright Automotive Group and Preferred Marketing and Training for two things:

1. Misrepresentation.

Nowhere on the ad does it say that Preferred Marketing and Training are conducting the interviews and the training. It says Wright Automotive Group Hiring for three locations, Job Fair Two Days only. I was never interviewed by anyone from Wright Automotive Group or was trained by anyone from Wright Automotive Group. Or, saw anything that closely resembled a job fair at Wright Automotive Group. I never said more than two words to anyone at Wright Automotive Group, and it didn't appear that hardly anyone knew there was even a job fair going on.

2. False Advertising.

Its really quite simple, $3,000 training salary. I wasn't given or offered $3,000 for the entire first day I was training to become an auto salesman. And was told that I had to pay $600 the next day if I wanted to come back and seek employment.

This was a very, very dirty trick played by Wright Automotive Group and Preferred Marketing and Training and I am currently seeking legal action against both these companies.

Mia paid for the training and received the training from Preferred Marketing & Training. She was sent on a number of interviews, but decided that she wanted her money back and did not want to sell cars. Mia signed a contract that states there is no reimbursement from Preferred Marketing & Training. The reimbursement comes from the hiring dealer. The student must meet ninety days with the hiring dealer before there is any reimbursement. Everything is spelled out and explained before any money is taken from any student.
