I contacted them about amending my 2018-2020 tax returns because I sold 2 properties and did not properly use my "carry throughs" of cost basis and other items. So although it was too late to get a tax refund, at least I could use the $60,000 or more of carrythroughs for each tax year in the future until the "carrythroughs" were exhausted. They were also supposed to prepare my 2021, 2012, and 2023 1040 returns. They stated that to do that they needed a $10,000 retainer which I sent to them. Then they called me and said that they would NOT amend the tax returns for 2018-2020, and instead prepared the 2021 and 2022 returns They did NOT need to research anything, they did NOT need to go through receipts. I supplied a spreadsheet with all the information.

Because they did NOT utilize the "carrythroughs", I was stuck with taxes owed, penalties, and interest. This came to $50,000. After that I asked them about the carrythroughs that they did not use. Basically, they told me that I paid $10,000 for them to prepare only 2 years of tax returns.  That's $5,000 per return.

Outrageous.
