I signed up for a one year membership at a local ladies workout express. My membership expired in march 2006. They refuse to believe that I am no longer a member. I am getting letters about money that they think I owe them and phone calls about twice a week. I paid the one year fees that I agreed to and do not wish to renew. Is this the Hotel California - you can check out but you can never leave.

Did you give the required notice?

Michelle,

I just read your report. I am an owner of Ladies Workout Express in Texas. All of the agreements require a 30-days advanced written notice to termionate the agreement. Even if you did sign up for a 12 month membership, the agreement is probably an auto renewal type membership. Meaning that it renews month by month until the required notice is received. You will continued to be billed each month until the notice is received and processed.
