Lenovo Spill resistant keyboard IBM wants to charge me S$1500 to repair the laptop. Singapore Internet
*UPDATE Employee: Spill resistant doesnt mean spill proof, but there's help!
*Consumer Comment: Not a warranty item
I bought a lenovo thikpad x61 because it is suppose to have a spill resistanct keyboard among other safety features. I accidently spilled coffee onto the keyboard and the laptop went dead.
IBM wants to charge me S$1500 to repair the laptop. Even though their advertisement claims that the keyboard is spill resistant, they will not repair it for free even though the laptop is still under guarantee.
I will never buy a lenovo product again.

Lenovo offers insurance for this type of situation. Heck it even covers a cracked screen... which of course would have to occur from an accident either by the user or someone near the user. They have a great warranty, and no computer can withstand a full cup of coffee spilling over into the components. They have a drain system for small spills.. but you can also safeguard yourself too! Ford offers warranties on parts but not if you get plowed into by a semi!

I do not work for Lenovo but do work for a school system that has hundreds of them.
The warranty is for manufacturers defects such as bad system boards or hard drives. It does not cover accidents or abuse. Spilling coffee in the keyboard is not a manufacturers defect, it is clearly abuse.
Spill resistant keyboard does not mean spill proof.
No one is going to warranty a notebook computer for dousing the keyboard in coffee. You need to use some common sense when using a computer and take responsibility for own actions.
Lenovo computers are excellent and are very tough, just not indestructible.
