I called Locksmith East Cobb from a neighbor's house because I was locked out of mine. I asked how much it would cost to have my door unlocked and was told there's a $29 service charge and then it would depend on what kind of lock I have. I agreed to the price and asked them to meet me at my house in an hour (I ran an errand while I was out). When I returned home, my neighbor was at my house with the locksmith and my door was open. Since I had not agreed to any further charges, I asked how much this was going to cost. The locksmith told me $50, so I told him to continue replacing the lock. So now I'm looking at $50 plus $29 for the service call. When he finished, he wrote up a bill for $214!!! It included $29 and $50, plus $115 "drilling charge" and $20 labor. My neighbor had asked about the cost and he had also told her $50. I told the locksmith I would pay $100 although I owed $79. I refused to pay the additional exorbitant charges and he removed my doorknob, leaving a hole in my door, and called the police! When the police came, they said I had to pay him or he could swear out a warrant for my arrest for "theft of services". I told the policeman to take me to jail because I refused to be ripped off. Because I absolutely would not pay more, the locksmith agreed to replace the doorknob and I paid him $100. How many people do they rip off like this every day?
