Jun 26 2021 Wedding photography So basically we booked a wedding photographer about a year and a half ago. He approached my fiancé on Facebook saying she won $1000 off a wedding package. Everything seemed good and cordial at first however after we made our second payment for a total of $2,800 is when the photographer slapped us with a sticker shock of $4,000 for travel expenses for Idaho to Georgia. We asked how they came up with the number and all they said was something about equipment insurance which wasn't specified in their contract In that same email they also suggested that if it's too expensive that we can go with another photographer like one from a school or something. Following that we requested a refund however they said no refunds unless it's more than a year out of the wedding date. The contract was made explicitly one sided and exploits the fact that they're not obligated to a refund unless its 30 days from the event if they can't find a suitable replacement based on what the photographer deems good enough. He also requires payment in full 3 moths in advance. This is underhanded and likely benefits from contract cancellations. I'm Uploading the contract so that you may see what I'm talking about. His also has a history of being completely unreasonable with covid cancelled weddings as well from the reviews i seen. I would like a refund, but above all else make sure he never makes these underhanded deals to anyone else

You are in Georgia. Why would you hire a photographer from the other side of the country? I'm sure there is no shortage of wedding photographers in your local town. And why would you expect someone to travel for free? $4000 to travel 2000 miles one way seems pretty reasonable. That's basically two whole days spent just traveling, so I would expect it to cost about the same as hiring them to work two extra days. And it is best to read the contract prior to signing it, not after you already paid.

That would be understandable if he was international, not domestic. He also stated during our initial facetime exchange he was wanting to move here to GA and verbally downplayed travel costs. I'm mainly going out to try and raise awareness to other non experienced people who never booked a photographer before. I still feel he took advantage of our inexperience, I wanted to use my friend initially (who we are using now) however my SO had reservations about but was excited when she "won" $1000 off this photographers package. What I mean by that my SO said she got a deal on FB for this photographer and thought she was getting a good deal. Not only was this Photographer $2800 AFTER $1000 off but this only includes digital files and I learned from other reviews that he charges $10 a photo for high resolution pictures. So at the very least he's overcharging.
