Hello to all,
Thank you for this web site. I had no idea that I was not alone in dealing with this company.
I applied for a Macy's VISA through the store about 2 years ago. I was told that this was a double charge card in that I could use it as a Macy's charge card and a VISA. I bought two itemes during the end of December of 2005 to January of 2006 using my card. One item was a bracelet for 48$ and a coat for $78. I noted that I got the Macy's bill and quickly paid it off. I also got a note on my VISA for this same charge. I called the company and they said that they would look into it. I am deaf and use a TTY and it was a bit frustrating as the person did not respond to me very well. I did not get a renewal card this year so I called them up again, in March of this year, to ask for one. I talked to someone who did send to me a card and I again told her about the double charge for the two items that I bought at Macy's. I also stated to her that I have not recieved a bill for my previous balance and wanted one.
I tried use this card this past Friday and could not. I called the company on May 12, 2006 and they said that my balance had been reduced to $590.00 on May 8, 2006 due to a report sent to them, and that I was over on it. I said to them that my alloted balance was $1,500 and I wanted to know why I did not receive any notification about the reduction or why it was done. The person on the line just said that they had recieved some notification that my credit was in question and that they were responding to this information. I asked them who notified them and they did not tell me. I also asked them about the problem with being billed twice for the two previous items stated above and they told me that I would have to wait to hear from them as it takes two billing months to get a full report.
I was appalled by this as it took them a few hours to decrease my balance without notifiying me. I also told them that I have not recieved a bill for the months of April and May and that I would like an explaination by the end of this week as to why I have not recieved one. The person had no comment. Then the person tells me that I still can use my Macy's Charge Card... I said that I am not going to use this charge card until all of my concerns are cleared up and that I am reinstated as a good customer and that I do not get charged twice for the same items.
I need help as I do not want this to go against my credit. It is bad enough when I cannot help my sons pay for college, but to have this additional burden of watching out for illegal actions from a Macy's VISA credit card is too much for me to do.
I have three grave concerns that need immediate attention:
1. Why was my credit line decreased without any noification on May 8, 2006, and I only found out about it on May 12, 2006?
2. Why was I double billed for the two items, the coat for $78 and the braclet $48, that I bought at Macy's in Natick, Mass., during the end of December 2005 to January 2006?
3. Why haven't I recieved a bill, statment, from the company even though they are investigating my report of the double billing of the two items?
4. I just received in the mail yesterday a letter from Macy's VISA with a "PIN" number on it. I did not request this and will not use it.
I feel that I am unjustly served by this company and someone is not telling me the truth about my account or its activities.
I thank you for your help and hope that I can get a resolution soon.

The macys visa is two seperate accts. The visa # is on the front of the card & the macy's store # is in code on a magnetic micro chip in the back of the card. It is a Visa everywhere in the World that takes Visa EXCEPT INSIDE MACYS. Inside Macy's it is a Macy's store card. The two accounts have different due dates, different acct. #'s, different limits, etc. Nothing you buy from Macy's, on the card can ever go on the Visa acct. There are two seperate statements. Each statment has the due date & acct # for the acct. It is not possible that a person could but items inside Macy's & have them charged to the Visa too. The charges to the Visa must be from something else that was bought from another merchant that has nothing to do with Macy's. If there are charges in question on either acct. the cust can put the charges 'in dispute' where an adjustment pending is placed on the acct until the case is investigated. Then, if the charges are not supposed to be there, they are removed. The customer is not responible for the amount pending, or interest, etc. on this amount untill the dispute is resolved.
That is why we have a customer service dept. We can solve people's problems if people cooperate with us instead of telling us what they THINK is wrong & what they WANT done. We need to look at the acct. & fiquire out if it is right or wrong. If it is wrong, we fix it. If it isn't wrong, we try our best to explain to unreceptive customers why it is as it is.
Credit lines are reduced for late payments, & for outside credit scores that go below certain guidlines. WE don't know why people's credit scores drop, but we can send them an 'adverse action' letter that entitles them to a free credit report so they can see why their score is so low.
If your credit score is low, or you are late on payments, don't expect Macy's to bankroll you to bury yourelf in deeper debt than you are sensible enough to avoid.
