Crowell, 25, of Biddeford violated probation on a charge of negotiating a worthless instrument in Westbrook on Sept. 16, 2003, and was sentenced to Cumberland County Jail for 48 hours, probation partially revoked, probation continued. He also violated probation on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer in Portland on April 2, 2004, and was sentenced to Cumberland County Jail for 48 hours, probation partially revoked, probation continued.

marcus crowell, owner crrc roofing took $5,000 for new roof 6/15/08. never started ,never did work .now will not return our money. bbb complaint filed ,maine state attorney general investigating, police complaint filed and going to district attorney . has history of taking deposits and not doing work. he is a convicted felon with prior convictions according to maine police.case going to court and arrest pending. I hired Marcus Crowell (or CRRC Roofing) to put roofing on three different roof surfaces of my house. I found him in the Yellow Pages under Roofers. He was very knowledgeable, came in under the written estimate, and worked long days under a tight deadline. He replaced the rubber roof of a large porch, corrected and replaced flashing (done wrong by another contractor) removed down to wood and replaced the entire peaked roof with material suitable for living by the ocean with high winds. His estimate was about 45% LESS than two other estimates. Both other estimates were given verbally from the sidewalk. Marcus' estimate was extremely detailed and written out.

As the work progressed, I added more tasks. He ended up replacing a sliding glass door and doing the finish work on the inside. He bought and placed gutters all around the entire house. He dug trenches for the spout to drain under the lawn. He was a stickler for aesthetics and redid some inside finish work on the slider because he wasn't happy with it.

I offered him partial payments several times along the process, which he refused. The ONLY negative was that his schedule was erratic at times, BECAUSE HIS WIFE was having a difficult pregnancy and there were 3-4 emergency room trips. I always knew what was going on. Some curmudgeon took the complaint from someone else and plastered it around the area of my home. I found this strange, since the work was long completed, beautifully done, and NO ONE asked me of my excellent experience with Marcus. I will hire him again.

Marcus Crowell (Maine): Won't give my money back. I paid $4,000 for a new roof. Never started work. His promised finish-date is history.

I am the father of an ex-employee who worked for and was the best friend of Marcus Crowell. I have been in the construction trade for thirty years and have never seen a person rip off more consumers than Marcus Crowell. He ran up $15000 on my son's account at Builders Supply in Biddeford Me and left him high and dry. He did this to his best and only friend he had left at that point in time. My son and the decent owners at Builders Supply each ate $7500. I feel sorry for any consumer who past, present or in the future deals with this felon. Unfortunately the court system has allowed this person to continue to prey on innocent consumers. Equally to blame is the fact that our state government does not find the will to protect consumers through licensing processes.

UPDATE=Crowell operates under several different names for companies , CRRC, commercial and residential roofing and construction, straight edge roofing, commercial and residential roofing company. He is a felon with a history of taking deposits, never showing up to do work and not returning money. He has prior convictions and violations of bail conditions. He has new theft and fraud charges against him now. Several Maine police departments are aware of his criminal past, BBB updated to include aliases and F rating, Attorney General has file on him, Federal Trade Commisison (fraud division). His current address 51 School St/Saco,ME. Moves between Saco and Biddeford, ME. His new #is (207)208-9641. He constantly moves and changes phone number.
