We have had an awful experience buying from Michaela Thornton(on FB: Mega Mutts-Great Dane) in Del City, OK. We picked our Gus out at 2 weeks, put down a deposit and signed a contract which included limited registration on him.
We visited many times before we were to bring him home at 7 weeks. We went on vacation for a week when we got back we wanted to see him. I immediately noticed he looked thinner than he had. I assumed it might just be from him adjusting to kibble. We also found many fleas at this time and voiced our concerns. She said she put stuff on the pups approved by her vet.
We visited again a week later only to find more fleas and what seemed like no weight gain again. We gave her the name of the stuff we use for our yard and she said she would have the yard sprayed and put more stuff on him. She said he was eating good and said they had been wormed by her vet. We planned on visiting soon again but were told she would be out of town. She said her roommate was taking care of the dogs.
When she got back (a Sun evening) we came to visit. He still had fleas and looked terrible. He was skin and bones, hiding under a bush and terrified. Once I drug him out I noticed his gums were white and he was shaking. She admitted to us while she was out of town the puppies hadn't been taken care of and went all weekend without being fed. She claimed her roommate didn't take care of them like she said she would and they were all covered in urine and feces when she got home. At this point I was worried if I got too upset she might not let us get him. Animal control doesn't work quickly around here. We were due to get him the following Wed. I honestly didn't think he would make it.
I cried our way home trying to think of what to do. I told my husband let's just tell her we can't get him Wed and since that was just a few days away could we come get him the next morning. She said that would be fine. We were there first thing in the AM and had to wait an hour for her because she "forgot we were coming". She brought him out and said she just sent off for his papers and she put out address on them for them to be mailed to us. I asked for a sample of the food he had been fed to transfer him easily to his new food. She brought me a bag with about a cup of food and said "this should last him 3 days".

We gave him a Capstar tablet we got in advance from our vet and gave it in a piece of hot dog and he about bit my finger off. We had a vet appt in an hour so we took him home, bathed him thoroughly in Dawn and went off to the vet.
I have copies of all the vet reports but the list of issues he had: hook worms, round worms, coccidia, eye infection, respiratory infection, a resolving flea infestation thanks to the Capstar tablet, severe anemia and was 5 lbs at 6 1/2 weeks. When they tried to feed him some canned food he inhaled it like he was starved to death. He had supposedly been wormed and given shots at 4 weeks old, but my vet said with the amount of worms he had, she didn't believe it.
It took biweekly vet visits for a few weeks and then weekly visits for weeks before he was in good health. In the first week with us he gained 3 lbs. When I sent her all the info from the first visit since our contract stated he was to be in good health, she did refund us $100 back...which in no way even touched what we have spent getting him healthy.
He's 6 months old now and we still have no papers. Her story has changed repeatedly on why and when we called her out on lying to us after I talked to someone at AKC that said no papers were created for that litter, she decided to start ignoring us. She has me blocked from the breeder page. I'm friends with 2 other people now who have puppies from her and they both have written bad reviews on the breeder page, only for them to be deleted and blocked. Our vet tech at our vet did the same and the same happened to her.
I have a letter from one of the puppy buyers I'm sending in with my evidence to AKC but unfortunately she sold Gus' parents and so I'm not sure what can be done. I'm also friends now with her now ex roommate who has told me how much the puppies were truly neglected. She said she was never supposed to have cared for the puppies and they were left out with one bag of dog food for all the dogs she had to share. She told me of one puppy that died from what she said seemed anemia and not being fed. Another puppy had been stepped on and was hurt and was to still be sold to the person.
She just had another litter so I'm trying to spread the word but unless she posts pictures showing their condition in not sure what I can do to save those babies from the same awful experience.
