I enrolled my daughter in Melanie Campbell's (Future Melanie Durham) studio Orangecrest Dance Academy in Riverside CA.  After months of rehearsals it was finally recital time.  She informed us that we could not bring our DVD recorders into the room and we MUST purchase a DVD from her if we wanted to see our child's performance.  I paid the $ and NEVER received the DVD.  I've tried to contact her SEVERAL times via email and telephone and no response.  She had no problem cashing my check but never gave us our DVD.  After several attempts I finally started doing some research and found out this was not the first time this has happened to one of her paying customers (refer to Rip Off Report # 449622, this mother had the same exact thing happen to her family last year). 

This is a terrible thing to do to a child and family.  This was my 3 year olds very first dance recital and it was very sentimental to us all.  We have no memories of it now and I'm heartbroken!

My name is Ms. Melanie and I am the Riverside/Corona JFK Director and Coach.  I am excited to offer a variety of classes to our area and I am also excited to be the ONLY dance school and program in the Inland Empire to offer High Kick/Drill Team dance. Each class is its own dance team and I am SO excited to be the coach for this new venture in helping to prepare young dancers for their aspirations in becoming a high school dance team member or whatever their dreams are!


I have over 13 years of dance teaching experience in various forms of dance including ballet, pointe, modern, jazz, tap, hip hop, dance team, and lyrical. Update on Melanie Durham/Orangecrest Dance Academy

I just wanted to post an update on this situation.  After several attempts to try to contact Ms. Melanie via email and phone with no response, and after doing some research online I posted this report.  I feel that no matter how busy someone is, if you are running a business you should respond in a timely manner to your paying customers.

I tried and tried to get a hold of Ms. Melanie and couldn't until coincidentally the day after I posted this report.  She waited 57 days after the recital to decide to return my email letting me know the DVD's are done but not ready for pickup.  It wasn't until August 31st that she FINALLY sent the email stating the DVD's are ready (73 days after the recital).

 I don't mind at all waiting for the DVD had I been informed that they're being worked on or will be delayed.  It's the fact that I heard nothing and then after 6 weeks of waiting and still no response that I did my research.  To see that another mother had posted a rip off report of the same scenario a year prior regarding the same instructor made me very nervous, sad, and upset. I truly believed (and rightly so) that I wouldn't see my daughter's DVD.  This worry could have all been prevented by a simple response.

I would like to post the email I got today from Mrs. Melanie so everyone can see what kind of instructor she is and beware of her threats.  This email was sent to me today (Sept. 7th, 2009).

I am not authorized to release information from a commercial distributor without his consent, so your request to receive videographer's information is denied.

You have been told when you can pick up your DVD by email.  Because you feel it is appropriate to say "how you feel" publicly without finding out details first for a product that you paid for, I cannot honor any request from you at this time.  I do no expect empathy or sympathy from you or anyone regarding my health or overall situation,however, to publicly display your displeasure without knowing the details or delays or your purchased product is completely erroneous and disrespectful to all those involved.

You will receive your DVD when these remarks have been removed online.  If you feel you do not want to do so, then I have no problem giving you a refund on your DVD.

Please let me know what you want to do.

In this email she states that it is inappropriate for me to state how I feel publicly without finding out details first for a product that I paid for.  This is beyond disturbing considering that I tried and tried for weeks to find out details regarding the product I paid for, she would not respond to a single email or phone call until after I posted this report.  It's very clear the threat she used against me stating she will not give me my DVD unless I remove what I've posted.  You can decide for yourself if this is the kind of person you'd like to do business with and have as a teacher and role model for your children.
