On July 1, 2004 I became aware that my credit card had been charged $96.00 by "MWI*Simple Escapes CT". The big huge pain in the butt was that I was at my credit limit and with this charge I went over my limit and incurred the overlimit fee from my credit card company.

When I called Memberworks Inc, Simple Escapes, I found out that the call that "authorized" this charge was a so-called customer loyalty - customer appreciation bit. Someone had called me and said that becuase I was a good customer with their company, Capital One, and that they were beginning to reward their patrons, that I would be sent various gift cards, a card for Wal-Mart, cards for free gas, at no cost or obligation to me.
***Memberworks, Inc. is an affiliate of Capital One... watch your credit card statements very closely!!! That's how they had my info.

While I was on the phone with the Memberworks "customer service representative" and she was trying to convince me that I had authorized this charge, and that if the person that initially contacted me did not give all of the details, she could not help that.

I promplty informed her that I wanted all charges reversed. As I was waiting for her to make her adjustments in the compouter, I remembered that I never received anything from them, and yet I was still charged.

I am being told that the charges are being reversed, but I still have to make my monthly payment to Capital One. I don't care what they say, this is was an unauthorized charge. If they would have told me that I was receiving these at a discount and I would have to pay a certain amount, I would have turned them down without a second thought!

Hey Jennifer,

good for you for having asked for all your money back.. just be sure you check for all refund on a daily basis.. it should take them not more than 2 business days to reverse all charges.. if you don't see all refund by 2 business days than I strongly suggest you contact your attorney general and have your credit card company contact mwi..

and give them the name of enza ciampanelli who happens to be the manager and isabelle savard who happens to be the human resources manager
