I purchased multiple bags of Kentucky Blue Grass from Alan Metcalf and Metcalf's Trading Post in 2012 & 2013. The last bag I purchased was just about all clover and was mislabeled. This bag has all but destroyed my front and side lawns as well as getting into my Bent Grass Putting Green. We applied a chemical to kill the clover on the putting green this past spring and it also killed the very expensive Bent Grass ($219.00/25#). We have to reseed at least half of this putting green which cost thousands to construct originally. Then the trail of clover became readily apparent on my lawn - there is literally a trail of it where I overseeded. This was about one acre of new lawn installed over the past two years and it was painstakingly done with attention to detail.

When I initially contacted Metcalf he was apologetic and said he would help in any way. I asked who supplied this disastrous seed product and said he didn't know, but that it was either Blue Seal or Allen Lothrop or Sterling (they have no record of him purchasing from them). I don't know (well yes I do) but isn't a business supposed to keep records for 7 years for tax purposes. I just wonder where he received this bad bag of grass seed (apparently he does too) and how accurate his bookkeeping really is? I would definitely be suspect of someone that has no record of where he obtains his product, for so many reasons.

I just contacted him about repairing my lawn which he said he would and now he refuses. I will take him to court but I think consumers should be aware of the lack of accountability from Metcalf's. I won't be purchasing grain from him any longer as I would hate to get some mislabeled bag of grain and have it injure or kill my horses.

I am not the only one to post problems with Alan Metcalf and Metcalf's Trading. I know of one other about one month ago - so these are apparently ongoing issues.

Note all the bare spots on my bentgrass putting green, this is where all the clover overtook the bentgrass, we applied the recommended product - it killed the bentgrass and we then had to hand pick all the dead stuff off the green so as not to damage it further. Alan Metcalf, in my opinion, you are nothing more than a snake in the grass (or should I say clover).

They ripped me off too

AUTHOR: Mike - (USA)

DO NOT BUY from Metcalf's Trading Post, I would high recommend not buying from this company. Bought item not thinking I had to check the expiration date but I was wrong. This stuff was over a year old and I called them within a week of purchasing it. They told me I should have checked before I bought. That was a $70.00 mistake. Nice going Metcalf, I will no longer be buying from your company and will steer anyone I come in contact with away from your crappy service.

It is nice to know that I have steered several people away. I may not put you out of business, but I will keep posting this till I die. I won't let you rip off anyone else. You maybe wonderful people to some, but I was a customer and you treated me like this. You can keep trying to remove my post, it only takes a second to re-post.

Thank you all that have agreed with me and thanked me. Just don't like seeing anyone getting ripped off.

Most people let people and companies like this walk over them. There are too many other places to buy the same items cheaper.

Jefferspet online is one great source.

Tractor Supply is only a few miles away and have lots of the same stuff and better pricing.
