MetLife just acquired my mortgage from AMTrust.  I've been paying, surcharge-free, ever since I re-fi'd with AMTrust, but MetLife Home Loans charges an $11 JIT fee.  I bet the JIT stands for "just in time," but I pay weeks ahead.  Now I have to write a check, every month OR pay extra for THEM to save money.

Screw MetLife!  If they EVER contact me to buy insurance or investments, I will teach the jerks a few new multi-syllabic profanities!!!

Same story for me

AUTHOR: yo - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 16, 2010

I have spent 90 minutes on the line for 3 phonecalls with Metlife about this $11 fee.  I pay several months in advance, and loved how quick and easy Amtrust's payments were.  5 minutes on the web and I could pay.  Metlife charges $11 to send in a payment online!  And, if you phone in a payment, after waiting an average of 25 minutes, they charge $15 if the payment is made outside of the first 10 days of the month.

After many minutes wrangling with them on the phone, I got them to waive any phone payment fee as long as I was paying for future month's mortgages.  But the next time I called, they said that was just a one-time waiver...after another 15 minutes on hold, they dropped it again and said they would put it in my customer record (like they said last time).

I explained to Metlife that I did not choose them, they acquired me, and it is their responsibility to offer customer service.  If you were to make 30 years of $11 payments, that would be nearly $4000!  What a bunch of crooks!

Another Victim

AUTHOR: Ken from Virginia - (United States of America)

I am a victim of this same situation - an $11 "JIT" fee to pay my mortgage on-line.  And they do NOT make it at all obvious that you are being charged this fee - you have to be paying close attention to catch it. These guys should be ashamed!  Futhermore, when you call MetLife's customer service number, their automated system informs you that they are closed and instructs you to call back during their regular business hours. Sadly, it does NOT tell you what those hours are!

Why would the FDIC sell my mortgage to a company such as MetLife that is actually hostile to consumers???  I will never voluntarily do any business with Metlife.
