Here are some important facts about the Michigan Web Journal and Sheldon Sakwa that we thought you should know:

1) Sheldon will tell you his circulation is 25,000 pieces. Actually, it is about 3,000. He mails approx. 1,000 and distributes about 1,700 at newstands and through advertisers. The rest are kept at an undisclosed location and he refuses to show postage costs to ANYONE. I constantly had advertisers call and complain that they've never recieved copies in the mail.

2) Sheldon has not paid the bills for his last two designers, he stopped payment on paychecks for at least two employees who left in the last 6 months, and refused to pay the last pay check of at least 3 other employees. He's also refused to pay several photographers and writers, and he usually ends his calls to them with "if you want your money, you'll have to take me to court."

3) Sheldon has had over 15 employees over the last year. Never more than 3 at a time, and some of whom only lasted a day. After firing them, he usually leaves harrassing phone calls and emails to them. I have several recordings (mp3's of voicemails) and emails.

4) Because the response to advertising in MWJ is so low, less than 20% of MWJ advertisers renew their initial contracts. This mostly stems from Sheldon's overly aggressive voicemail messages left to advertisers and potential advertisers. He's basically yells at the person who puts him through to voicemail. Most of his former advertisers can confirm that.

Collectively he owes over $10,000 in unpaid employee/commissions and contractors.
