mike anderson attorney general. abingdon,il saying my social security number and last name was somehow involved w a scam. i recieved a message from washington dc saying they will print up information and have the local police arrest me abingdon Illinois

I got an email saying a mike anderson attorney general in illinois found my last name a s.s. number used illegally, not sure how, and i should contact them possibly be arrested. Today someone left a voice mail from DC stating the same and would have the local authorities arrest me.
Trosamichigan@gmail.com is what they used.

I hope you didn't give the caller any info or confirm your SS or anything else. Clearly these scammers don't understand how the system works if they are threatening you with arrest. You are the would be victim of ID theft (if any of it were true).
I hope you hung up on them and didn't confirm anything. If you did confirm your social, contact the credit reporting agencies and freeze your credit report. Also file a police report to help protect you against the scammers opening up acounts in your name. Go to the FTC(dot)gov website and see what else you might need to do to protect yourself and your credit. Good luck.
