Puppies@Moondoggies only mistake was selling this guy a puppy. What actually happened with this poor puppy, is that the owner let the dog eat a plastic piece from either a toy or something around their house. The dog became ill due to that fact and the owner accidentally stepped on the puppy which severely injured the puppy as well. The owner waited two to three
days before taking the puppy into the vet which at that point the dog became really sick from these incidents. When he arrived at the vet he told them that he had stepped on the puppy a couple of days prior and that the puppy had been acting very sick ever since then. The owner of the puppy took it upon himself to put the puppy down because he didn't
want to pay for the medical expenses that he caused to the puppy himself. The Vet also found the plastic piece that the puppy had eaten that was stuck in the puppies stomach. After Moondoggies received a call from this customer stating that his puppy has passed away and he didn't know why all he wanted was his money back. Moondoggies then proceeded
to call the Vet to find out what actually happened to the puppy and the above statements are what we were told. Moondoggies called the customer back and told him we need proof that the puppy had passed away due to a hereditary or congenital condition which pertains to our health guarantee such as a written statement from a Veterinarian or a necropsy
report. The customer refused to give such information and then proceeded to make threats to slander the companies name and post blogs.
Moondoggies found a blog that was posted about 30 minutes after the telephone conversation on Yahoo stating the same thing that this blog says. Moondoggies called the customer and asked him to take the blog down but he refused so Moondoggies contacted their attorney to take action from there. His blog from Yahoo was removed when he hear from our
attorney. If he continues to slander this business with lies Moondoggies will be in contact with their attorney for a second time. It disgusts me that someone could treat an animal like this. Moondoggies mistake was selling this person a puppy because he was obviously incapable of caring for the dog. Since then we have done our best to make sure these puppies are going to loving and caring families. We called Banfield pet Hospital and actually was able to talk the veterinarian at the time who treated this dog, and confirmed our story.

First of all, I'm surprised that they would tell you that the puppy had giardia, as I was told they do not test nor treat them for it there at the pet shop, as I guess they feel it would be pointless.

However, I was was highly stressed that I have my dog tested within 10 days.  Now, I know why it is highly stressed.  I'd be shocked, now knowing what I know, if a puppy tested negative.

When I bought my puppy, they went over the entire contract with me, and I had to initial each thing, as this is standard procedures.

I took my puppy to the vet in Alta Loma as required within the 72 hours required time.  If not does not take the puppy there within the 72 hours, then it's too late, and anything that occurs will not be covered.  In addition, if I had not had him tested for the parasites within the 10 day period, then I would have been on my own.

Long story short, my dog tested positive for giarda at a level 4.  Therefore, he was HIGHLY infected.  I spent 5 months having him treated!  The pet shop said the $30.00 I had to spend on each test was not covered, as it's not part of the treatment.  However, in order for him to continue to be treated, he had to be tested!  I didn't buy that; however, I got so sick of dealing with the problem, that I didn't pursue it at the time.  I just wanted to get rid of it then haggle that later.

I was also told that Flagyl wasn't covered, as it wasn't necessary.  I was told that at the vet's office.  Therefore, I went straight to Moondoggies after I left there, and the vet's office apparently called and informed them of my dissatisfaction, because they already knew about the situation when I arrived and told them about it. 

I don't know the entire details of your situation.  However, if you took your puppy there within the 72 hours and did the testing (or had proof of the giardia via Moondoggies) within the required time, then everything should have taken care of. 

The pet shops having to follow the California State Law in regard to the 'puppy lemon law'.  I suggest you look it up online so you can read the entire law and provisions.  However, if you did not follow the first two requirements, then unfortunately they aren't in the wrong.

If you did follow the contract, it states (per CA law) that you can get a refund or a replacement if your puppy dies. 

In addition, you if you don't agree with them, you can take them to court.  I highly recommend that you do some research, and if you were wronged to file a case in court.  It could probably be resolved in Small Claims Court.

Also, if they knew the dog had giardia when they sold it to you, there might be some liability on their part, if they did not treat the animal knowing this.

I am very sorry for the loss of your puppy.  I've learned my lesson about buying from pet shops after my 5 month nightmare.  They tell you that the puppies are not from puppy mills.  However, a rose by any other name is still a rose.  Summing it up, in my opinion, they are nothing more than a licensed puppy mill.  In addition, the transaction via the 'breeder', and the pet shop is done via a puppy broker.
