I am also reporting MWI, my mother called her bank to find out that someone had made an ATM or Credit transaction in the amount of $96.00...She didn't remember making any transactions in that amount so she talked to a representitive at the bank, they told her it was from MWI...

She has no idea who or what they are...Lucky for her, she disputed it. Her bank will return her money and look into it, but those people need to be stopped. And how are they getting all theses peoples credit card numbers?

How MWI may be getting the credit card numbers

AUTHOR: Brent - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 20, 2002

From what I understand, when people visit certain sites, sometimes certain sites (not necessarily adult sites i.e. pornographic sites) sometimes have what's called an AVS (Adult Verification System) which usually ask for a credit card number for age verification.

It is extremely probable that the person might have used such an AVS to access the site. Now, like I said, there are a few sites out there who use AVS's that are NOT pornographic and this is NOT to suggest that the person used an AVS to such a site.

In all possibility, this might be what happened (or happens): The person visits this site which might be a site dedicated to forensic investigations and the person might be writing a book about a detective story and needs some good information or just wants to see what it's all about. Because of the nature of the presentation and the graphic nature of the pictures, age verification is needed. The person clicks on the "join" button or whatever it might be, and goes to the AVS and enters the necessary information, while being told that the transaction is secure and the number is ONLY used for verification and is NOT going to be charged.

Once the information is transmitted, then the AVS sends the credit card number to MWI so that they charge the card with the amount listed on the statement.

This is all from what I understand. I am no expert, and I do not claim to be. But when you add logic to all of this, some things just fall into place. Also, be aware that many adult phone lines usually use a name or something that is totally generic like TMI or even MWI. That's how they usually go about that. I am not suggesting at all that the person called one of those lines, but it could be that someone other than the person might have, so it would look very odd to them.

I hope this has been informative and might explain how they are getting a hold of the credit card number. Thank you for your consideration and reading.
