This company continually sends me books I have not ordered and I have been unsuccessful in contacting them. They also bill me for these books. This has happened more than once and if it continues, I will not only cancel, but will refuse to pay for any books received without my permission.

Whether you signed up for the Mystery Guild online or offline, you should have come across the following information (this was taken from their web site):

How does Mystery Guild work?

Our members receive the Club Magazine, filled with great books and great values, up to 19 times a year (approximately every three weeks). Featured Selections are sent to you automatically. To cancel them, or order other books instead, simply accept/decline online, or return your Member Reply form by the marked date. Our Web site makes membership easier than ever! You can rush or decline your featured selections (no cards to return!), order from our online catalog and check your account balance 24 hours a day.

...so in fact, by joining the Club, you have agreed that they will send you the Featured Selection unless you tell them not to. If you do not reply - either online or by sending the member reply form back - you have implicitly ordered the book and they are well within their rights to send it to you and bill you for it. You can always return the book, but you will still have to fulfill your obligation - I believe the latest is to buy 3 books in the two years after you join.

I don't belong to this book club, but one of the other BOMC (Book of the Month) clubs - the Quality Paperback Book club. And I had belonged to the parent Book of the Month club at one time before that.

Oh...and you cannot cancel your membership UNTIL you meet your obligation.
