I have received these types of letters...

AUTHOR: Maryann - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 02, 2006

Over this past summer I to have received letters like these. The checks looked so REAL, (I was told by a Canadian official that they are and were probably stolen from that particular company, call the number you'll see they do exist) that my boyfriend called me at work all excited telling me I won the lottery! and to come home quick! Well I wasn't as thrilled and stayed at work, when I finally came home I checked it out.

Sure enough I supposedly won this foreign lottery in the second round 9th batch blah blah blah! What I kept wondering was HOW? seeing that I NEVER entered this lottery in the first place! So I decided to do some research online and finally ended up on this website that gave me numbers to call and report this kind of activity.

I got a hold of this Canadian official who was at the head of this task force that deals with this kind of stuff. He told me in no uncertain terms that only Americans fall for these kinds of scams and that no Canadian ever would! He said if you didn't go down to the corner store and PURCHASE an actual lottery ticket, or remember entering that particular lottery, than what you have is a SCAM! He also said it would be like a total stranger coming up to you on the street and handing you $50 and telling you to buy some lottery tickets and if one of them hits...hey let me know ok? DUH!...yea right like I'm gonna let you know that one of the tickets hit! Another piece of knowledge he shared and I had no idea was that it is illegal for US citizens to enter foreign lotteries in the first place!

After speaking with him I also called the company who's name was on the check and informed them what was going on. I also called my bank and told them and the woman I spoke with in the fraud department told me had I tried to cash the check I would have been arrested on the spot! She told me she heard where they had just recently arrested this poor woman, senior citizen, and carted her off to jail! the good news is that they got it all straightend out and she was released.

I called the BBB and the lady there told me you NEVER have to pay out any money when you win a lottery, contest, or sweepstakes, and if they ask for money then it's a SCAM.

Moral of this story...If it's to good to be true than it probably is...and you never get something for nothing...if you didn't physically purchase the lottery ticket, enter the contest or sweepstakes then how in the heck could you possibly be the winner? Think about it people... and don't get fooled by these lunatics.

Oh, and the people behind these scams? I was told by the Canadian task force that they could very well be terrorists! So if you don't want to be caught funding these kinds of people then just pitch that crap in the garbage where it belongs! Be safe...research...investigate...that's how I found this great site!!!
