We are attending an convention in San Francisco March 4th-8th. This is the first year that we are attended this event and were told that we could not make reservations directly through the Hotel as we typically do but must go through a Travel Planner. National Travel Planners contacted us via email at the same time we were receiving information from the conference organizers referencing the convention in March. When I followed up on the email assuming National Travel was the planner required, The employee who sent the email said she was the one handling all reservations for this convention and so, I had her make reservations on our behalf and charged 50% to our credit card. This was in October of 07. On 2/20/08, 2 weeks before the convention, we received a phone call from National Travel Planners stating that our reservations were not being honored because their wholesaler oversold their allotment and there was absolutely nothing that National Travel Planners could do about it. They offered no alternative accommodations. I was further instructed to call our credit card company myself to have the 50% charge to the card reversed because it could take up to 90 days to process if I had them do it. I immediately called the Marriott. They had no rooms available (of course) and informed me that the Travel Planner that we should have been working with was not National Travel Planners. They further stated that they had a very nasty reputation in the Hospitality Industry. I did some investigation and looked up National Travel Planners in the BBS and the rating of "Unsatisfactory" came as no surprise given our experience with the company. National Travel Planners deceptive representation practices paired with their refusal to rectify the situation prompted me to file a complaint with the BBS.
