I signed up for New Horizons A+,Net+,Security+, MCSA, CCNA program last March and have only completed one class for it. I already had an A+ Certification going into the program and the salesman said that they can give me a "discount" for already having my A+ cert. They'll also offer me a teaching gig because I already had an advanced degree coming into the program. The catch was that I had to complete the classes in order to teach them. That is understandable, students don't want someone who is not certified themselves teaching them. Needless to say, there is no shot of me ever teaching at that or any location.

He also stated that I can enter into a "Mentored Learning" program with online access and a learn-at-your-own-pace environment. At the time that I enrolled, I was unemployed and looking for work. I thought this was a good idea and even started attending the classes on my own time. During this time, I ended up getting a job with the company I work for now. This job is strictly a day job (8am-5pm M-F), so my time with New Horizons is and has been limited since taking this job in April. I called and informed them of the change and said that I wanted to do the mentored learning remotely and wanted the website for the access. They told me that it was out of the question and that I have to come to the center (that is 30 miles from my house) if I want to complete the program.

I later ask for my sales rep (approx. a month later) and they tell me that he's gone. Now I have a new person that I don't even know what she looks like telling me that if I want to learn remotely, I need to cough up another $5k for a stupid iPod with all of the classes stored on it. Another FIVE grand!? No effing way! So here I am, only one certification under my belt from this organization, no online access to any of their resources, and a nice, fat, high-interest $12k loan to add to the rest of my debt that has put me into a Chapter 13.

I recommend that no one ever (especially in the Pittsburgh area) give money to New Horizons. There are other centers that probably provide much better learning or that are more flexible with their students. I was even scoffed at when I asked about evenings or Saturdays to catch up. I was told, "We don't do Saturdays and evenings vary." What is that crap!?

I was even told by my sneaky weasel of a sales rep that all of my testing vouchers will be included (up to 3 retakes per test) for the certifcations. I found out later when I signed up for my Network+ that only one voucer is granted and if I fail, I have to pay for the retakes! ME! THE STUDENT! OUT OF MY OWN EFFING POCKET!! I have learned a hard lesson from this and now, as I said before, am suffering in bankruptcy.

The only thing so far that I was not lied to about was the fact that all of my text books were included in the tuition. That also has yet to be seen because I haven't asked to pick up the remaining texts. We'll see what happens when I do.
