NORTHLAND CREDIT CONTROL COLLECTION AGENCY ADDS 40% OF DEBT AS FEES Minneapolis Minnesota

I owed my college $2500 and my case refered to this collection ageny, they called my and said I owed $3500, the extra $1000 was for collection fees, I did want to pay off the original amount of 2500 but was told to "get lost its now in our hands" .

The agent Ron Wall said if i did not pay the full amount the agency could ruin my life and my families life. I checked out the company and found out they have several complaints from the Minnesota dept of commerce. Are they allowed to set any agency fees they want?
