We had 2 Visa charges for $99.91 from something called New Life Academy. When we called the phone number listed on the Visa bill (801-979-7578) it was an individuals cell phone who claimed to have nothing to do with the bill and gave us another number to call (866-697-6781). When we called that number we got a recording that stated they were receiving a high volume of calls and if we were calling about the free DVD player we should leave our name and number.  We kept calling until someone finally answered and explained they were an addiction treatment center for online recovery and he told me he would talk to his supervisor and try to get it resolved for us by Monday (it was Fri. when I reached him).

Monday came and I did not hear back from them so I began calling again, getting the same recording. So I left a message to please call me back.  About a week later someone called and the caller ID identified NPW Companies, phone number 801-446-1224. The person calling said we were being charged for a tooth whitening product that we ordered online. I explained that we did not order or receive a tooth whitening product or anything else from them - she insisted we had and there was nothing she could do about it - we had to pay for it.

We have no idea how they got the credit card number in the first place - but regardless - you tell me if you do not think this sounds hinky...

Well one thing is for certain..

..that this company is based in Utah, land of the tooth whitening (and many many other) online SCAMS.

The thing is, they do not guess bank account info, someone with access to your information had to submit it voluntarily.

Oh it could be identity theft or a stolen credit/debit card..but realistically, who would steal your identity just to order some tooth whitener?

More then likely , you or someone who uses your account got suckered into some kind of "free trial", which as well..is always a scam.

How the phone numbers are going to Christian Academies, and alcohol/drug treatment facilities is beyond me but being it is in Utah and tooth whitening.. it most likely is a front.

I guess you can try to dispute this with your bank, but if the charge was authorized, it makes it harder to convince the bank to reverse the charges.

What you need to do, is find out more info about the tooth whitening company, and see if you can document other complaints from online and the BBB etc...use this documentation to show the bank as evidence, the company is conducting internet fraud and again request or demand that they reverse the charges.

Don't know if this info will help you..but in internet search of NPW Companies yields this...
