I bought a home June 2003. Along with it, comes Old Republic Home Warranty.

The root of this problem is my water heater. In retracting my notes and minutes of phone conversations with these complete idiots that call themselves "customer service represntatives" (CSR's), I have clocked 16 phone calls, 256 mins of phone time and 3 hours of personal time from work to take care of this crap. This is with O.R. only. This does not include the phone time and off work time with the contractor.

On August 21, I noticed I was not getting any hot water. Called the gas co, who came out and stated it was the thermocouple. Went to Home Depot, bought the part for $11 (as the gas co. was going to charge me $50 to install it) and had my brother install it. 4 days later, it goes out again. Called gas co. again, and this time out, they said they don't service my type of water heater because its the "new kind of technology" and has an electric ignitor instead of a "strike the match and lite the pilot" ignitor.

That's when O.R. came in. To make a REAL long story REALLY short, it is September 16 and I have no hot water. This company has done everything in their power to dump the costs onto the contractor, the customer (me) and a third party that got dragged in, Sears.

Sears told them to go to hell, it's their problem.

The contractor is smack in the middle and needs certain things from O.R. to complete the order.

I need my freakin hot water.

O.R. tells me that I should be able to handle this since my water heater is under warranty. But that's not the issue.

At anyrate, the gas co. won't help me, Sears won't help me, the contractor can't do anything until O.R. craps and gets off the pot and tells them what to do. O.R. says its my problem.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

In speaking to several people that have dealt with O.R., I have been informed that they have a SCAM that goes on such as this: make it as difficult for the customer as possible so that they break and do all the work themselves. Is that the crap or what?

Well, not this customer! I am breathing down everyone's neck every hour of the day until I get my freakin hot water.

The authorization department sucks major weenies. I have called them so many times that I have all their names and extensions written down. Only one has been reputable and pleasant to work with even when I call in an outright frenzy screaming and yelling about when the hell they will crap and get of the pot and take responsibility in servicing their customers.

REALTORS: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! THEY ARE NOT REPUTABLE AND DO NOT HAVE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Old Republic Network Contractor

Tim - Hemet , CA

You hit it right on the nail head Tim on pre existing conditions. I am a Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor I cover the Murrieta, Hemet areas. All to often I recieve a no cooling no heating work order to find 15+ year old neglected equipment with no sign if any maintenance whatsoever.

My hat if off to the hard working telephone representatives that recieve these irrate calls from this type of service call.

But in rebuttal to to person in Murrieta: I service sometimes 5 or more calls a day for Old Republic, spending tens of thousands of their dollars on equipment replacements, parts etc. My reports for autorization are taken seriously by Old Republic. When we find equipment failed under normal wear and tear, it's repaired or replaced.

Old Republic is a Home Warranty Company, a insurance company. They have the repect of thousands of satisfied customers across the US I am proud to be a Old Republic Network Contractor.

The problem is in that people do not read what their buying, it's a good product. Whats wrong is the people that buy thier house, get a Home Warranty expecting that old clunker will be replaced under warranty, wrong...

Folks Home Warranty can be the best thing you ever bought if your buying a new home. But have your equipment proffesionally inspected by a license contractor not a Home Inspector. Maintain it properly and if the times comes your Home Warranty Company whether it is Old Republic or someone else will take care of it for you.

Home Warranty, Home Protection Companies are nothing more than an insurance company

Your letter only provides partial information. But from the contents you have provided it sounds like your water heater is covered under a mfg warranty at this time. If your Home Protection warranty is like ours, it doesn't cover in warranty products .

Our neighbors just moved in a few months back and had a similar problem their watter heater was rotted and rusted out. This didn't happen in a few weeks, all pre exisitng conditions.

Read your policy !

Home Protection Companies are nothing more than an insurance company and thier not going to cover pre exisitng conditions nor warrantied problems, sounds like you need to read your policy.
