Palisades Collections - Wolpoff And Abramson You pay, then they file judgement Maryland

I just looked at my credit report and seen that Palisades had put a judgement against me for a debt a paid them last year under the name Wolpoff and Abramson. They called me in January 2007 and I wasn't in a good frame of mind, so I agreed to settle with them. They sent me a letter and I made payments to them and they went ahead a filed a judgement. I received no subpoena, no nothing.Come to find out after I paid this debt, it was old and the statute of limitations was out in my state. I did a search on the net for these people and found that both names are listed under scavenger debt collectors. Bottom dwellers they call them. They purchase old debts for pennies on the dollar that the original creditor didn't bother to collect on time. I don't see how they can get away with what they are doing. How did a judge not look at the paper work carefully. He just went ahead and signed the judgement and I paid them. I don't know what to do. I filed a dispute on my credit report and now they are calling my work. I am afraid of what they can do next. I don't know where to turn.
