PNC Bank has the worst policies I have ever encountered. I was grandfathered into PNC because I have been a customer there for about 7 years, and when I first started banking with them it was a National City Bank, which was great. Then about 3 years later, they were bought out by PNC and the nighmares ensued.

First off, I need to explain that the only reason I am still banking there is because a family member of mine is an employee there. If it were not for that, I would have left a long time ago.

The first problem I had with them, was that when you deposit your check, it isn't available until the next day best case scenario. I know a lot of banks are like that though, but I have also been with several banks who make your check immediately available in your account. This is an issue I can take with a grain of salt and move on, but it still contributes to the big picture.

The second problem I ran into, is that one day, they decide that they will no longer cash your checks, in order to make the money immediately available in your account; unless you already have at least the amount equal to the check already in your account. Now, I'm not a millionaire, so it's a rare occurance when I have the same or greater amount of money in my account than what my paycheck is. This has caused me major inconvenience on multiple occasions, mostly pertaining to on-time payments. I know there are probably other banks out there that have this same policy, but PNC is the first and only one I have encountered that does that.

The third issue I came across was overdraft fees. I get the logic behind overdraft fees, and I understand it. What PNC displays towards customers who overdraft is nothing short of merciless and unforgiving. What I mean by that is, no matter the amount overdrafted or even if you paid it back within 5 minutes of overdrafting, a $36.00 charge was assessed to your account. So it could be 1 penny over, and even if you pay it back 20 seconds later, you pay $36.00.  I don't know what PNC stands for, but I'm pretty sure the "N" is short for Nazis. Possibly uncalled for, but it makes me feel a little better.

The fourth and final-(unlikely) issue I have with PNC is the most recent policy added to this potent brew of terrible customer satisfaction. There is no way to be sarcastic about this or use any kind of metaphor to describe it, because the policy itself demonstrates it's own stupidity. If you walk into a PNC Bank in person, and hand them your money to deposit, you will be charged a $10.00 servicing fee. No jokes, no exaggeration. The bank which you have so loyally been attending, now charges you to bank with them.

There is a way around this though! If you deposit your money at the ATM, thereby voiding any contact with any other human being at that bank (including the one who helped you START the account), you avoid the charge. I don't know about anyone else, but this is clearly a blatent attempt at cutting at least 50% of all human employees through the company. There are at least 5 different reasons why this one policy alone brings me to hate PNC more than any other problem I have faced with them.

I am still a customer at PNC. It is because of idiots like myself, that banks like PNC (God forbid that there are any others) are able to carry out these god-complex-like  changes and maintain an actual growing business. I would love to think that every PNC customer out there will read this and promptly go to the nearst "PNC ATM" and close out their accounts, and that every prospective customer who stumbles across this poorly written complaint will be utterly deterred from any further consideration of offering business to this ridiculous institution, but I know that won't happen.

All I can do is imagine this all taking place, and hope that whatever tightwad d****e wearing a suit and tie and making these policies is doing when he/she receives the news that PNC has officially been voted the worst bank of all time and will be immediately sued and shut down, is reading this report, and knows that this is what every other PNC customer out there is thinking, and cheering as the 1 billions story corporate headquarter skyscraper is crumbling to the ground.

Veni, Vidi, Vici - said PNC Bank to all of it's victims

Literally?

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Thursday, May 22, 2014

First of all what in the world does havving a relative working at that bank have to do with ANYTHING?  Do they get some sort of "kickback" every month you stay a customer?

As for the rest of the literally worst issues...

The first problem I had with them, was that when you deposit your check, it isn't available until the next day best case scenario. I know a lot of banks are like that though, but I have also been with several banks
who make your check immediately available in your account.

- So why aren't you with one of these "several" banks that make your full deposit available?  Oh yea..you have a relative.  It can't be anything like you are full of it..nah.   Perhaps you should take a look at Regulation CC aka the Expedited Funds Availability Act, which states exactly when a bank needs to make funds available.

The second problem I ran into, is that one day, they decide that they will no longer cash your checks, in order to make the money immediately available in your account; unless you already have at least the amount
equal to the check already in your account.

- That's 100% right.  Because if the check you are cashing bounces, they need to make sure that you can "cover" it and not go overdrawn.  Oh so you say..well it is good and it won't bounce.  Okay then take it to the bank it was drawn on and cash it there...of course be prepared to pay a fee for being a non-customer cashing a check.

The third issue I came across was overdraft fees. I get the logic behind overdraft fees, and I understand it. What PNC displays towards customers who overdraft is nothing short of merciless and unforgiving.

- No you don't understand them because EVERYTHING you described is basically standard with most banks.  It is a set fee and not a percentage, and with the exception of one bank that gives you until the end of the business day to "make good", no other bank I am aware of has any grace period.

If you walk into a PNC Bank in person, and hand them your money to deposit, you will be charged a $10.00 servicing fee

- Okay I won't say you are lying or telling the truth.  However, I could not find anything on this fee.  Could you please post a link that shows you get charged $10 for a deposit with a teller.

Oh and no I am not now or have I ever been an employee of ANY bank.  Not only that but I don't even think there is a PNC bank within 1000 miles of where I am.
