I am a 75 yr old retired person. I live on my social security payments  and they are direct deposited to PNC Bank ! Last month my wife had a seizure and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. She had sen't $ 100.00 to her daughter in the Philippines. The money transfer service charged it to my PNC account even though she told them to charge it to her TD bank account. As my account was almost out of money , they charged me $36.00 overdraft fee. My account after the $100 was only $4.65 in the red as I saw it was still pending ,I immediately deposited $ 100 cash. This was on a friday, my niece sent me $ 200.00 from her Wells Fargo Bank to my PNC bank but they never recieved it. She is covered and Wells Fargo refunded her money. Then some charges for items I bought on Ebay started coming in and PNC charged me $470.00 in overdraft fees. The charges were for items I had bought last year and I thought they were already paid . They took the money out of my social security check and now I don't have money for food , telephone or to pay the doctor bills. I tried to reason with them but was told to piss off ! I have no assets or saving accounts , I just have to borrow from friends till March 18 when I get my next check. Why didn't they decline  the charges that came in and I though they could not keep someones social security patment ?

Neice's money...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 10, 2015

You answered your question in your original post: "This was on a friday, my niece sent me $ 200.00 from her Wells Fargo Bank to my PNC bank but they never recieved it. She is covered and Wells Fargo refunded her money." For some reason (wrong account number, wrong routing number, etc) PNC either didn't get it or couldn't put it in your account. So she got her money back. Depending on how she "sent" the money to you determines how long it would take for the money to post to your account. It would not have been fast enough unless she took cash into a PNC bank and deposited it into your account. That might have helped but not by much, per your OP.

The od fees were $ 36 per item plus $ 7 a day for being over. I would still like to know what Happened to the $ 200 my niece sent me ? Being a customer for 15 years ,I thought I could get a little break !

Taking social security money...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, March 06, 2015

SS payments can NOT be garnished except for federal debts. But the bank can certainly take it for money that you owe them for puschases or fees.

As you mentioned, the debits had already occurred, there was no way the bank could decline them. At that point the bank can only pay them.

You say that if the inital OD fee hadn't been charged that you would hve had enough to cover all the purchase. However you say you got $470 in fees. If the fees are $35 per item, thats 13+ items overdrawn. If the fees are less per item, there's even more ODs. As you acknowledge, the amount of time it takes for things to go through your account has shortened drastically. Therefore it's even more important to stay on top of your account by using a register, and even tough it's hard you have to do this during emergencies as well. If the items were charged before your wife's seizure and your register was done, the money should have been tere to cover them. One fee should not have caused 13+ OD fees unless something else is going on.

I hope your wife is doing well.

I did not keep records because it's hard to keep track when your wife is in the emergency ward in critical condition, and my computer was down cause I did something wrong when the ambulance arrived ! The reason I was over drawn was because of the initial overdraft charge . If you remove the first charge my account was current. They could have sent me an email to warn me as TD Bank does but no they are just greedy bastards , taking largest amount first and then banging me with 7 or 8 smaller charges be fore  they get to the deposit which would have covered the overage. I come from the midddle ages , when banks would total up at the end of the day to get your balance and a paper check took 3 days to clear. Now if you buy a Snickers at the check out , before you tear the wrapper open , it's taken out of your account . It's funny that when I make deposits it sometimes take 2 or 3 days to clear ! But the bottom line is : They cannot take your Social Security money , as of 2011 when they started forced direct deposit. Am I wrong? That's what I read on the net ! They should give me my money so I make my mortgage payment and take me small claims court , which would be a waste of time as have no assets !

Absolutely NO Scam...Your Failure To Keep Written Records...As Usual!

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, March 06, 2015

No scam here.  Same old story.  YOU gave yourself o/d fees because YOU don't keep written records and maintain an on-going running balance and only spending what you have. Imagine this...if you would have been keeping said records when you made the EBay purchase, you would have subtracted that purchase from your on-going running balance and it would have been mathematically accounted for in that on-going running balance, thus no o/d fees!  The bank has NO CONTROL as to when the merchant submits the debit.  Any allegation the bank knew of this and decided to hold onto it, waiting for a prime time to submit it to cause o/d fees is pure BS!

No, I don't work for them.
