We bought a 42 inch flast screen plasma tv from Cirtcuit city. It was a Polaroid. We had it 11 months and the remote broke. No problem? WRONG. We bought a remote, no codes work for it. We bought a polaroid remote, no, you must have the EXACT ONE for the 42 inch plasma. We can't run it without the remote.

THEY DON'T HAVE THE REMOTES, THEY DON'T KNOW IF THEY CAN GET THEM MADE. I have a worthless plasma tv. Worthless.

I think someone should have some sort of law suit going. The service department is ridiculous. They can't service anything because THERE ARE NO PARTS!

I feel your Pain

AUTHOR: Hollie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 14, 2008

I too as many others on this site WAS a victim of Polaroid! I purchased a 40 inch LCD from Circuit city in Feb 07, by Oct 07 the tv stopped coming on, we of course called Polaroid and was told we would have the part shipped and then were to call to schedule maintance, well the part never came and call after call we were told it was on back order, finally in December after dozens of calls we were told we could take the tv back to Circuit City for an exchange, however within 15 minutes of being told this, we were then told that wasn't an option because replacement tv's were also on back order. We couldn't find an independant repairman to fix our tv because they too couldn't ever get the parts needed. After we were told the replacement tv's were on back order we were given the option of refund! I was like yeah right, well surprisingly they sent us a shipping label to ship the tv back at their expense, then I thought, I bet they take the cost of shipping out of our refund! I would have been highly peed had they, but they didn't and we did recieve our refund within 2 weeks of them recieving the tv.

Now that was the scary thing, sending them back their tv without having anything for it after all the crap this company had put us through, I didn't think it would be anything for them to get their crap tv back and not send us anything. I read alot of reports on this site regarding other people with the same problems and many had to pay for their own shipping of the product back to polaroid so I was greatful we didn't and that it did end up working out in the end.

I too think their turn around time for getting issue's resolved leaves alot to be desired, and I too think that the companys like Circuit City, Best Buy, and Walmart who push these Tv's for Polaroid need to take a little responsiblity themselves for the product being crap! They have got to know this and so when you have a salesmen as in our case who tell you that the product is wonderful and they themselves have the same model in their living room and have had no problems out of it what so ever are also to blame, they shouldn't sell a crappy product and then not stand behind it, it is just bad business, as I know I will never again purchase anything from Circuit City because of this reason.

In the end our story ended up a happy one, although frustrating and time consuming, I think your best bet is to continue to call Polaroid, let them know you have not given up and gone away, ask them for a refund of the tv, I mean if you can't watch the tv without the remote and they can't get you a new one then the tv may as well be broken itself and you need to let them know this and insist you be given your money back. I hope this helps and I am glad you were able to go out and get another tv without having to have your money back for the first one, with us, we had to wait for the refund before we could afford another one of it's size but it was well worth the wait as we ended up with a 62 inch Toshiba DLP and I couldn't be happier and My husband was just thrilled too! Hope it works out as well for you in the end.

Polaroid Junk

AUTHOR: Polaroid Anger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 12, 2008

I have to agree. Circuit City really had promos on Polaroids. Who would have known - now the problems are surfacing after people have had their polaroids for a short time.

After two months of the run around we bought Sonys. What is disheartening is the lack of any responsibility Polaroid will take for not knowing if they can get the parts even made, even a simple remote but THE remote that this plasma tv must have. An engineering fluke that they need to take resposibility for.

Polaroid

Polaroid ? A solid brand ??? You've got to be kidding !!! They stick their name on a piece of crap that is made by some unknown company in some unknown place and is sold at a cut rate price by discount stores all over this country. This same piece of crap tv has MANY different names stuck on it by MANY different companies, but it is still the same piece of crap. In the future, stick with a REAL tv manufacturer, such as Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi, RCA, etc. You'll pay a little more, but you'll still be watching it long after the Polaroid has died.

Tried ebay and other remote companies

AUTHOR: Polaroid Anger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

Apparently, and here is where the frustration comes in, it has to be very specific to the model in this case. We are sitting here with 4 polaroid remotes, two from a remote supply store and two from ebay. This is the frustration, and none of these will program to the "universal code" for the plasma 42 inch. It is some sort of a 'glitch' where all we would have to do is get the right remote and hit "enter" and we would be able to run the tv with the controls on the tv. That is what the brains have come up with looking at the set. Well, you need, once again, a specific, very specific polaroid remote to make the set work.

Now you can see our total frustration in buying what we thought was a solid brand, boy were we very wrong.

Try ebay

AUTHOR: Alan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

I just typed in polaroid remote into ebay and several remotes came up. You may want to keep an eye on this as new remotes pop up all the time. I believe this is the best chance of getting a replacement.

If it wasn't polaroid,

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

then who did manufacture the plasma TV?

Some one at polaroid has to know what company produced the tv and that company should be able to send you a remote or tell you what "product code set" to use on any of the better "universal remotes" that are on the market.

Good luck.

Polaroid doesn't have the remotes, you can't order it.

AUTHOR: Polaroid Anger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 11, 2008

We of course have called Polaroid, we know their site, we have been working at this for months. Thanks for the link, they don't have the right one, we tried that months ago. They tell us that we can't turn the tv on without the exact remote and the exact remote is on backorder - but Polaroid tells us that they don't know if they - Polaroid - can even get them made.

1. tv is worthless without the remote.

2. They admit they don't know if that remote can even be made for them. Mind you - it is their remote and they can't tell you if or when it will be made.

3. We call Polaroid once a week. Sometimes we are told it takes a week to ten days by some "service rep" on the other end of the phone. Then we tell them to read our record and they say "oh" well then we don't know.

4. Yesterday a supervisor suggested that we try buying a remote from an outsource that they are trying to get one from. We said we tried that months ago. None of the polaroid remotes are compatible even with the codes which won't work for the 42 inch Flat screen Plasma tv.

Not made by Polaroid

Polaroid simply has their name branded on cheap tvs coming out of China. They are just like others like Westinghouse. They are garbage. I am surprised it lasted that long.

We did contact Polaroi

AUTHOR: Polaroid Anger - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 10, 2008

Additionally, we have been in constant contact with Polaroid service. We have gotten the constant run around on the remote, they were the ones who told us to try and order the remote from an outsource company since they don't know if they will be able to have a remote made for their own polaroid 42 inch plasma tv. Contacting the company directly has been a huge disappointment.

Contact Polaroid directly

Polaroid has a one year parts/labor IN HOME warranty (according to their website.)

You should be able to obtain a replacement remote control directly from Polaroid.

Good luck.

You can obtain other contact information from their website at
