I  called  Precision Overhead Garage Door Service and  asked them how much it  would  be  to  replace a spring.   the  answer  was  evasive "it  depends upon  the  spring...  but  we  can send  someone  out  to give  you  a  quote."

The  guy  who  came  out  to  look  at  the  door  quoted  me  $ 325,-  for  replacing the  springs  and  the  cables.  (the  least  expensive  version).  Then he  talked  about  a  job  with  more  expensive  springs  ( + $ 100,-)  and  a  "garage door  overhaul"  for  amost $ 900,-

I  remember  that   a  few  year  ago  I  paid  $ 450  for  a brandnew  door,  installed.   So  I  asked  him  again "it  is  going  to be  $ 325,- ?"   which  he  confirmed.

I  let  him do  the  job,  even if  it  appeared  expensive  to me  but  I wanted  to get  it  done.  We  own  several  properties  and  i  did not  want  to spend  more  time  shopping  around  for  a  simple  job  like  changing the springs.  he  needed  about 15  minutes  and  when  he  was  done  he  came  up  with  a  contract  which  he  wanted  me  to  sign.  there  were  questions  like  "are you the  home owner  and  are you authorized  to have  work done ...?"

i  did  not  really  make  sense  to me  to  aske  me  to  sign  this bs  after  the  work  was  completed  and  I  should  have  told  him  that  I  would  not  sign it.  Now  suddenly  he  wanted  $ 355,-  and  I  was  really  upset  about  it  because  he  clearly  stated  $ 325  twice.  His  explanation was  "  the  additional  $ 30  is  tax".   When he  quoted  me  the $ 325,-  he  did  not  say  "$ 325 +  tax".    I  wanted to know  how  much  I  would  have  to pay  and  he  knew  that.  i  told  him  that  I  would  never  again  hire  this  company  for  any  of  our properties   and  I  strongly  recommend  to  stay  away  from these  guys.  They  are  not  honest.

Precisions  rebuttal  is  total  BS:   If  a  customer  asks  "How  much  is  it  going  to  cost ?"   He  wants  to  know  how  much  he  will  have  to  pay.   This  is  not  only  common  sense,   this  is  what  the  company  understands  and  this  is  what  they  will  tell  the  company  when  presenting  the  bill  to  him.

Nobody  wants  to  know  "How  much  is  it  going  to  cost  without  taxes ?"   To   quote  a  price  without  taxes without  mentioning  " Plus  tax ..."   might  be  legal  but  it  is  deceptive  and  not  very  honest.   the  purpose  of  saying    "It  is  going  to  be  $ 325,-"    (even  twice)  is  to  make  it  sound  cheaper  than  what  it  is  actually  going  to  be  at  the  end.   At  the  end  their  rep  was  very  well  able  to  say   how  much  I  had  to pay,  so  why  not  at  the  point  when   I  asked  him  "How  much  is  it  going  to  be ?"    I  guess  that  this  is part  of  the  sales  training  that  they  receive  ("Never  quote  a price  with  taxes,  don't  mention  that  the  quoted  price  does  not  include  taxes....")

By  the  way:   I  am  male,  not  female  and  I  never  asked  for  oil  springs  whatever  that  is.  Sounds  like  this  company  has  a  lot  of  fantasy  to  create  a  story  out  of  their  imagination.

Leader in the Industry - Requires Much Responsibility

AUTHOR: Frank - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, June 19, 2013

We serve over 20,000 customers a year and we do everything in our power to make sure all our customers are completely satisfied. We are open 7 days a week 24 hours a day 365 days a year. You can reach a live person 24/7. Our complaints are less then 1000th of 1% just in the last 10 years. We are here, We care and We are the Best.

Despite all that, no one can please 100% with our volume of customers but we will never stop trying to do so. We are always going to suggest the best parts because when we are done with a door, it will last another 15 - 20 years and we warranty all the parts we install for LIFETIME. It's up to the customer what they want to do ALWAYS! If they want 3 years warranty parts that's what they will get. We will not do any work on a garage if the customer refuses to fix safety items like frayed cables. Being the leader in the industry as well as an honorable company we will not leave a door unsafe or do a partial job for a customer who wont fix the dangerous parts. More then 20,000 people a year are injured from their garage doors, some are even killed. We will not do short cuts just to save a customer money of it's dangerous. The same customer that will complain about price will call a lawyer and sue us because they will say we didn't tell them it was unsafe.

When a customer calls us for pricing over the phone we do our best. It's like calling a mechanic and asking them to give you a price by listening to your car over the phone. We have no idea what kind or what size springs a customer has. We tell our customers that springs range between 99.99 and 149.99 each installed. It depends on what size door a customer has and what it is made of, steel, glass, wood etc. It also depends on what a customer wants for their budget, Low cycle springs or High cycle springs. It's up to the customer!  We also do a 25 point safety inspection on the door and opener. We have 6 different overhaul options available to them. We have warranties ranging form 3 years to lifetime on parts.

This customer wanted oil tempered springs and it is always smart to change out your cables at the same time and she wanted that as well. We gave her an excellent deal and only charged her 325.00 plus tax = 355.22. It's common sense and smart consumers know that tax is added to a bill. We do not negotiate tax that's not our money, it's the states. This customer called us and we went on time and did and outstanding job at a great price. New garage doors cost around 750.00 these days and they do not come with oil tempered springs or upgraded hardware.

We offered this person the correct advise with the correct pricing. Being a multiple property owner she did not want to put the best parts on the rental properties. That's OK, it's her business and we understand that rental properties get the least quality parts so rental property owners don't have to put to much money in them.
