Ok, this is going beyound the realm of honesty! I see where all the people representing Primerica bragging how Honest and upstanding this MLM called Primerica is. I also read, that they claim, people that post here at RipOff.com have no proof that the company is NOT On The Level and Honest. This is proof enough for me that Primerica is nothing but a company that has no ethics and wants to get info from my computer that thay have no right to! The following is a report from my firewall software telling me who is trying to gain access to my computer.

Primerica not capable of hacking

I have had several opportunities to deal with Primerica. I am an engineer with 18 years of experience in system administration, security and networking. I seriously doubt anyone at Primerica's main office has the technical know-how to cause any damage. To put it bluntly, technically speaking they are a bunch of hillbillies.

I have never worked for Primerica but have had several friends who have. It is not impossible to be successful at it but it is not simply a function of hardwork and competence. It is also a function of market saturation, economy dynamics, probability, etc.

The point is that many people fail at MLM, not because they were lazy, but because the system itself in a given environment is flawed. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has plenty of public data on MLM success rates. They also have available studies which reveal that 90% of the workforce prefers being an employee to being an owner. There are many reasons for this, some which do not apply to Primerica.

The real issue is not the small probability of success as a PFA, but the consumers perspective.

PFAs are poorly trained in personal finance. They only know basic Citigroup product information, rules of thumb about money and debt, and how to sell. Even if they do train themselves well enough with the intricacies of estate planning, portfolio hedging, etc. they are compelled to sell on Citi products. Herein is the agency problem in which there is a temptation to sell either an inferior product or an inappropriate product. Small mistakes in planning can be very costly.

Debt reduction plans are simple. So simple that a trip to the library and the will to write down a plan are all anybody needs. They do not need a PFA for this basic, free information.

Specific product issues:

Mortgages/refinances. Interest rates dont matter. This was quoted to me by the PFA who visited tried to refinance my home. From this and other sites and my friends, Interest rates dont matter is a common phrase. This is very misleading, if not outright deceptive. The agent claims that by paying the loan off the borrower will pay less over the lifetime of the loan. This is true. By making extra payments one will pay less overall. The mechanism for making the extra payment is the biweekly plan. This is a gimmick used by many lenders. It is fine except for the fees attached to it. What no lender tells a client is that, with rare exception, anyone can make extra payments, anytime. On my first mortgage and now on my current mortgage, I pay extra each month and end up making 4 additional payments per year. There was no plan. I simply send extra money each month. I check every month to make sure that it was applied to principal and that they have stopped accruing interest to it (it is of course illegal for them to do so, but it never hurts to check.)

Anyhow, since anyone can make extra payments and reduce their total mortgage cost then wouldnt they want to do so with a lower interest rate? If I have the choice between making an extra payment on a 5.5% mortgage and an extra payment on a 9.25% mortgage, I will clearly choose the 5.5% one (9.25 was the actual rate offered me. I was very insulted given my current 5.5% regular 30 year, perfect credit, income, etc. Did she really think that I was that clueless???). It will be paid off even earlier with less total cost in the end. The math here is so simple yet PFAs continue to be deceptive about it. To give legitimacy to my analysis I am currently in a financial econometrics PhD program.

Term life insurance. Most people agree that term beats Whole life 95% of the time. But from a survey of 9 people offered term from Primerica/Travelers, PFS charged 38% (mean) more than other quotes. These were absolutely equivalent, level plans, with senior guarantees of renewable coverage. Being able to renew coverage is an odd selling point for PFS. When someone is 70, especially if they have been financially planning, they do not need but a fraction of their normal life insurance, if that. With any sort of planning, a 70 year old with a dependent will have no debt and will have enough money set aside for burial and maybe for supplemental income to the dependent. A 70 year old with no dependent should not buy any life insurance.

Salomon Smith Barney. This family of funds is not necessarily worse than any other family in performance. However, they charge one of the highest loads. It is, like all PFS products, priced too high compared to equivalent products. Managers of load charging funds perform no better than those without loads. So why pay for the load???

Sam, I can see by reading you defense of your friend K, Kalamazoo, Michigan that you are a well-educated person. Based on your statement that K knows what he is talking about, I accept your assurances that he knows to read the report of the Firewall program.

However, here is the real question: is K honest about his motives to stain the image of Primerica? I will prove herein that he is dishonest about his motives!

Here are some details to inform you and K of how the things work at Primerica Financial Services:

1. Primerica is the Sales/Distribution of CitiGroup. In itself is the administration of that function -products sales/distribution.

2. Over 100,000 Independent Businesses, independent contractors, whom you may consider affiliated with Primerica, perform the selling. They are not employees of Primerica because they do not get paid any salary, and they buy their benefits from Primerica, or any other benefits provider, as they wish, and as stipulated in the IBA (Independent Business Agreement).

3. Nineteen days ago I signed such an IBA, on my way to become a Financial Advisor, with multiple licenses (FA).

4. Thus, Primerica Financial Services is the administrative & back-office infrastructure that supports the:

a. Creation and maintenance of the financial products,

b. Administration of the marketing processes undertaken by 100,000+ FAs,

c. Training structure of the corporate, and independent FAs.

5. Last week I bought on the open market my first leads list from which I will begin to build my business. Such a source of leads is available to anyone, and is widely used by FAs, and many other marketers. Since I am just starting out, I needed this list to start my business, and to generate from it the referrals I need to continue on from the startup.

When my business and my production will reach a certain level I will be responsible for opening my own office, with all the functional assets and equipment needed for the corresponding office activities.

All the costs derived from opening such office, and for the support of its activities, will be my personal business costs. I am not an employee of Primerica, only a contractor to market their products and services.

6. Now that you know how the real system is set up, I am sure that you will understand the following statements and questions I address to you and K:

a.Primerica itself does not sell anything directly to a specific citizen-customer, such as K. If he would be Mr. Warren Buffet I presume Primerica could make an exception. However, Mr. Buffet owns a large global insurance business, and as a former stock broker /portfolio manager has been immensely successful to invest by himself!

b. I am one who sells Primerica's products and services, as a contractor. Thus, Primerica has no need to go to Ks computer to copy his precious secrets, because:

i. It has no need for Ks information,
ii. I do not need Ks information either because my natural market is Atlanta, Georgia. Then, my sales must be face-to-face. Thus, even if K would pay my expenses to go to him and sell him what I can and what he wants to buy, to me a prospect located in either Kalamazoo, or Timbuktu holds the same amount of marketing interest: zero!

iii. I buy my leads, when the referrals come close to few, and I buy them personally with my own money, and not through spying on unknown computers. Firstly, I would not know how to spy. Secondly, I would not waste my time for spying on the presumption that the computer owner is willing to buy and capable to pay, while I live in Atlanta and he lives in Kalamazoo!

Whether K is an expert in reading the firewall report, or not, I am sure that by now you and K, have realized how preposterous is his contention that Primerica is spying on his computer! It can be easily presumed that someone in the Primerica Corporation may have misspelled his address and tried a few times until realized that it was the wrong address.

There must be another reason for his libelous statements made by K, he did not tell you about. His furious statements seem to indicate a deep hate against Primerica which cannot possibly be because a Primerica computer collided with his, 2-3 times.

I think he reveals himself his motivation when he wrote the following lines at the bottom of his libelous message, which I copied here:

The choice is yours. I choose to tell Primerica where the can shove there MLM scam.

It is obvious that he attempted to become a Primerica Financial Advisor, which for whatever reason he could not master. Some people can only be employees; others can only be business owners. He could not be a business owner, and I am sorry for him!

While I am not glad for anyones failure, I am glad that, with his very poor level of English language and awful spelling he did not represent me, and Primerica, in my business market!

It is also possible that, while he was with Primerica, he connected to its web site http://www.primerica.com and that he left his computer address on the Primerica computer, which was not purged yet by Primerica. Thus, is possible that Primerica computer was trying to contact him for some routine communication.

Is it reasonable for some one to get engaged in libel against a company without knowing what he is doing? I do not think so!

If "K" he has the character and decency required, he should apologize to Primerica under his own complaint title.

How much will Primerica suffer because of rip-offs steam let-off Web site? No more than the ratio between, say 100 irresponsible and dishonest complaints, like Ks, divided to over 100,000 of happy contractors and divided again to many millions of happy customers!

His failure to understand his duties as Primerica contractor, and his failure to be successful in Primerica were his failures!

He needs to spend his time to learn good English, just as I did on my own as an immigrant to this Country. I never attended a class of English language!

I cringe at the thought that he may have been born in this Country!

It is obvious that he attempted to become a Primerica Financial Advisor, which for whatever reason he could not master. Some people can only be employees; others can only be business owners. He could not be a business owner, and I am sorry for him!

While I am not glad for anyones failure, I am glad that, with his very poor level of English language and awful spelling he did not represent me, and Primerica, in my business market!

It is also possible that, while he was with Primerica, he connected to its web site http://www.primerica.com and that he left his computer address on the Primerica computer, which was not purged yet by Primerica. Thus, is possible that Primerica computer was trying to contact him for some routine communication.

Is it reasonable for some one to get engaged in libel against a company without knowing what he is doing? I do not think so!

If "K" he has the character and decency required, he should apologize to Primerica under his own complaint title.

How much will Primerica suffer because of rip-offs steam let-off Web site? No more than the ratio between, say 100 irresponsible and dishonest complaints, like Ks, divided to over 100,000 of happy contractors and divided again to many millions of happy customers!

His failure to understand his duties as Primerica contractor, and his failure to be successful in Primerica were his failures!

He needs to spend his time to learn good English, just as I did on my own as an immigrant to this Country. I never attended a class of English language!

I cringe at the thought that he may have been born in this Country!

The person that posted the original claim is a friend of mine, and in his line of work he has had occassion to deal with all types of computer hardware and software, as well as various types of operating systems on different types of machines...in short, he DOES know what he is talking about, and is familiar with how to read a firewall report. This was not a standard probe or temporary system link; it was a deliberate attempt to gather personal information from the hard drive on his computer.

As a FYI, the word you are looking for is "Libel", not slander. Slander is deliberate misinformation regarding a person or company's integrity through word of mouth, while libel amounts to the same actions, though in printed form.

Firewalls Cause Panic

I had a firewall program and constantly thought people were trying to hack into my computer. Then I started throughly reading the reports and realized it was just adding "cookies" to my computer. Almost any site you visit if they have pictures they add them to your computer in your temporary internet folder so when you return it doesn't have to take a long time pulling up the photos and other items. It is in no way hacking into your computer. If you check your temporary internet folder you will find thousands of files (if you do not clean them out on a weekly basis) from all the site you visit. You need to be careful making claims that are completely unfounded. You listing your firewall report that just states you were visiting the site is not showing anything but that. You can be charged with slander for making claims from information you really do not understand.
