Providian - Aspire Providian sold account to Aspire closed account for NO reason and lied about obtaining credit report Atlanta Georgia

In early August my husband received a letter in the mail stating that his Providian Platinum Card was purchased by Aspire, and upon reviewing his credit history, they decided to close the account. What??

Providian had given him several credit increases and even upgraded his card to Platinum. The account was well below its limit and hadn't been used in over 6 months. Is that the real reason the account was closed? Inactivity and the fact the company wasn't making that much money off of it?

They stated he could recieve a statement of reasons by writing to them and that there decision was based on information obtained from the credit reporting agency Equifax.

When you are denied credit you are entitled to recieve a free credit report within 60 days of that denial. The same day we received this letter I contacted Equifax and was informed that NO ONE had requested a copy or had reviewed of my husbands credit report in the last 3 months!! Unbelievable, Aspire never even reviewed his report.

I guess this is our reward for keeping our balance low and paying on time.

One other thing, I always made the payments via Providian's website. Aspire actually has the nerve to charge $14.00 for online bill pay through their own website. Absolutly rediculous. I know of no other company that does as it benefits them just as much as it benefits the consumer.
