On Feb 23rd, 2009 I got a letter from Prudent Securities Inc. from Toronto, Ontario, Canada with check in the amount of $4,875.00, saying we needed to Western Union or Moneygram $2,875.00 to be paid directly to the tax agent. They tell you that this is the First Check is for the payment of applicable Government taxes on your big winnings. But because of the Insurance bond policy coverage, the taxes have to be paid upfront. The letter is from Ontario, Canada & the check is from Memphis, Missouri. The letter was dated on Feb18th, 2009.

What is Prudent Securities?

Is that a name of some shady operation trying to fool people that they are somehow connected to Prudential Securities?

I'm assuming you have no account or prior dealings with them. If they sent you a check for "winnings" and are asking you to send a check for "taxes", then this is probably some scam where money is being laundered. Either, mail the check back to them without your return address or ignore it. They will go away.
