I've seen many complaints here about QX Telecom (know known as WQ Long Distance). I understand the company was sued for its advertising practices regarding a product for female breast enhancement.

I'm interested in knowing what, if anything, has been done about false charges and misrepresentation with regard to the phone service.

Is there anything I can do legally? I guess it's pretty much buyer beware.

Here's my story.

In July and August 2002, QX Telecom charged approximately $120 to my Master Card account (i.e., two charges of $59.78 plus a small charge of about $3).

I didn't challenge the charges until September 2002. I managed to get the service cancelled by calling the 800 number. The operator told me of an agreement I had made with a telemarketer earlier in the year. I vaguely remember agreeing to a 30-day trial for a phone service. But, I never received the paperwork showing the name of the service, the terms of the agreement, how much the service would be or how to use the service.

In December 2002, I wrote to the customer service staff for QX Telecom requesting a refund. Several months later, I received a reply refusing my request.

Sure seems like this company is more interested in getting money from people than providing a useful service.

Received Full Refund from QX Telecom

AUTHOR: Bob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 20, 2006

In late June 2006, I filed a complaint against QX Telecom (aka WQ Long Distance) through the Consumer Mediation Unit of the District Attorney's Office for Santa Barbara County, CA. In early July, I received a refund of $122.76 from QX Telecom.

As Kandice (Newbury Park, CA) has been saying on this site, be careful about giving your credit card information over the telephone. I remember doing this a few months before QX Telecom started billing my account. I think many folks here have learned this lesson the hard way. But, now they just want to know what to do to get their money back from QX Telecom.

Mediation through the Santa Barbara DA's office seems to me to be the best route. Many jurisdictions recommend mediation as an alternative to legal action in Small Claims court. It saves the court time. And, it also saves you time and money (i.e., the cost of filing a complaint, the cost of serving notice to the defendant).
