Steps I took
AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)
SUBMITTED: Friday, September 07, 2018
Engine ran app 2 minutes making a strange noise.
Removed valve cover and couldn't see any valve train problem
Removed Regal water pump and saw gear teeth were broken
Talked to Leon at Regal
Sent pictures of failed timing gears to Leon
Leon got new gears which I installed
Leon didn't have another water pump so I rebuilt Cat water pump
Reassembeled front of engine, on first use #1 rod bearing failed.
Contacted Leon again, said they don't provide warranty, has to pass through their supplier.
Supplier stated they have had no problems with that pump which ment they didn't supply a faulty pump, it was my fault.
I sent water pump to Regal for them to inspect, they said they didn't have a gear to compare the failed gear to.
I bought a new Caterpillar gear and drove to TN, I met with Leon who said the gears "looked different"
I also took the Caterpillar gears for Regal to inspect, the cat gears had chips but all the teeth were intact
Leon said the pump vendor would not admit any wrong.
I then sent a certified letter demanding a claim on there insurance.
Tom Leonard is who I have delt with since.
Tom said they are self insured.
Tom said they determined that a Caterpillar gear is what caused the problem.
Talked to Caterpillar
Caterpillar said they could tell if the gears failed from normal wear or impact of broked teeth going through gear train
Requested Regal return gears and water pump with voice mail and email.
Regal will not respond
