I am a current student at The Detroit Southgate campus. I have a pregnant woman in my class right now, and they are nothing but cooperative with her. If she needs to sit, they allow her. When she needs to leave for appointments, or other things, they allow her. The attendence comes back on her, but they allow it. The educators are nothing but professional, and highly educated in their specialties. Lisa is always willing to work with sudents. We have Ms Tracie as our educator right now, and she is so professional. She even goes so far as to not directly call people out on dress code, she does it one on one. It seems to me that you didnt like being in the real world, and treated like everyone else. I have a daughter, and when I was pregnant, I never expected special treatment. When signing up for this, they warn you there will be long hours on your feet. I'm not saying pregnant women shouldn't apply, but you have to consider things. Long hours, on your feet all day, you have limited days you can miss. It could turn bad quickly, but if you are truly dedicated and love what you're striving for, then it is entirely possible. Lisa is very direct with people, but we are adults, not children. She treats us as such. Maybe you took that as harrassment, but thats life. I can't speak for the educators while you attended, but I can speak for how the school is now. I would recommend it to anyone, I absolutely love it. All of my classmates love it. Its a big family here, and everyne goes out of their way to help one another. I'm putting my all into this course, and I'm succeeding. Maybe you should have done the same. It seems your former classmate pegged you.

I too went to the Regency campus in Southgate Michigan. I saw first hand how unprofessional these people were. Make up ok I had an original contract it said nothing of make up only that you look professional. Men look professional in lip gloss and mascara hmmm.... maybe not, maybe so but if you said no cause he's a guy thats sexisim right there. No matter your physical or mental health if you have presented the statement that if a doctors note is presented it will be honored or if you are given the explanation that an acomidation will be made to you then that agreement must be honored. And whenever any agreement either written or verbal is broken it will cause a grievance. So if you are told to go home because the maternity pant you have has pockets because every pair at three stores had pockets and your contract states black pants then that is on the educator or administrator that made that decision. When you start changing rules and not providing copies of any changes signed by the student to the student they are not legally held to thoose changes. When you have an over egar co manager trying so hard to be manager befor the manager is even gone yet that she is telling you that she doesnt care what her boss says she is brewing the fight the boss attitude right there. And when you have stupid rules about when you can or cant call the police or public safety issues. When you have educators cutting into students verbally in front of others or students that cant return to class because the manager has booked more tours then they have opening and keep people that have paid allready out prolonging their graution and fustrating people. I just hope that everyone involved in this gets some well deserved Karma. I wish them only what they deserve. This is rediculous I honestly think that no one should have to go through anything that makes them uncomfortable but that is like wanting world peace. 

I am so sorry that you had to go through this. That is discrimination and that is against the law. What would they do if one of their students had to have surgery? Like an appendectomy or something else that would make it so they can't stand? There are many people out there besides pregnant people who have standing restrictions. If you had developed gestational hypertension you would have put your baby's life at risk if you stood like they wanted you to. When I went there it was a school full of bullies too. The one thing I agree with them on is the makeup rule, I think it's unprofessional not to wear makeup. Not that I wanted to when I was pregnant though, so I do understand where you are coming from. There are exceptions to every rule. The best thing to do at a place like this is drop out as fast as you can and never look back. Who cares if you owe them money!

This was the school that I was going to attend.  I wrote a rip off report on the Minnesota headquarters because the Southgate Michigan location was not open yet.  It's unfortunate that everything I thought about this school turned out to be true.

They were very unprofessional and impatient on the phone.  Very rude and inconsiderate.  They actually responded to my rip off report because it was the first of many to be filed on them.  So many have been filed now that they don't even respond anymore. 

I tried to warn everyone...I saw right through the glitz and professional looking decor of the place.

I want money from the state of Michigan?


Regency took my money when I was 6 monthes pregnant - THEY KNEW.

I MADE THEM AWARE AND THAT WAS FINE WHEN THEY WERE GETTING PAID.

SOON AS THE INK DRIED IT WAS A PROBLEM.

ITS NONE OF THEY'RE d**n BUSINESS WHY I'M ACTUALLY ATTENDING SCHOOL, WHILE PREGNANT - IS IT? IS IT?

I GUESS MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE ATTENDED AFTER I COLLECTED YOUR TAX DOLLARS SO I COULD HAVE GOT MORE HUH?

HOW WOULD THEY MAKE SINCE WHEN I WANTED TO GET IT DONE WITH QUICK

to itsasecret in monroe,mi.  It's really not a secret, everyone knows who you are.  You came into the school with a bad attitude, you never wanted to cooperate.  You wasted class time with your drama.  You used your preg. to try to get out of work.  When all of us students sign up, we are told about standing to work (the nature of the industry), we're told about dress code (they're trying to turn slobs like you into professionals).  I doubt you had a gpa that high due to the fact that you were always absent and behind the rest of us in class.  The instructors are awesome, but nobody has tolerance for people who are wasting everyone's time.  I don't know why you even signed up for school, plainly you're just looking for the State of MI. to take  care of you and "you're baby's daddy".  Wake up little girl, the real world is waiting.  I love the school, I love the instructors.  They have taught us so much, even things that are not in the "curriculum", and we learn to sell retail (required in most salons) which brings in additional income with commission checks. 

I started attending Regency Beauty Institute In July of 2008. I attended the Southgate, Michigan campus. This is one of the worst mistakes of MY LIFE, and no this is not an exaggeration. The educator's are down right rude and harassing and wouldn't mind making you quit, because they have a 2 month waiting list to flip another 17,500 dollars. This school is also not FOR PREGNANT WOMEN - THEY WILL NOT TOLERATE PREGNANCY. I would do your research.


EDUCATORS HERE ARE HORRIBLE - UNEDUCATED - HARDLY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND TRUST ME YOU'LL SEE THEM GO OUT JUST AS FAST AS THEY COME IN. THEY'RE'S A VERY HIGH TURN OVER RATE IN EDUCATOR'S HERE AND THEY MAKE UN-PROFESSIONAL REMARKS. EVEN GOING AS FAR AS CALLING ONE GIRL A "DUMB BLONDE" INFRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS. NOT ONLY THAT YOU ARE TOLD TO THROW OUT ALL OF YOUR PRODUCTS AT HOME AND BUY REDKIN AND TOLD TO TRY TO SELL REDKIN AT EVERY OPPURTUNITY YOU GET.




I WAS ASKED BY AN EDUCATOR "WHY I WAS ALLOWED TO SIGN UP PREGNANT?", AND "IF THEY KNEW I WAS PREGNANT WHEN THEY LET ME SIGN UP..." CONSIDERING I WAS 5 MONTHES AND TOLD THEM I TOLD HER YES AND SHE REPLIED WITH SOMETHING LIKE "THEY MUST NOT KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING UP THERE"



When I was 8 monthes pregnant I asked them if I could sit while working THE RECEPTION AREA - I only asked for a 15 minute break and they said no. So I was alright with that I figured of course they need a doctor's note - Its a technicality, so I asked if I could sit today and get a doctor's note for them tommorow - No was the answer. She said she didn't think they could accept a doctor's note and that I would probably have to take my leave early - BASICALLY FORCING ME OUT IF I DID GET A DOCTOR'S NOTE. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT - AND I WASN'T EVEN ON THE FLOOR. I WAS WORKING THE RECEPTION DESK. I asked if I could go get it and come back because by this point my feet we're swelling - No was the next answer. I called my O.B. to get it faxed and the fax was broken [which surprisingly happens when they don't want to accept our doctors notes], and then I had to have my doctor's office call and basically tell them they better let me sit, and then finally the fax machine was up my fax wen threw, but I barley ever sat, because they would tell me to stand "or go home"... so I had to go get a support belt to support my stomach, and back because they forced me to stand. Even after my c-section my doctor's not was still on file and I was still told to stant, and I didn't even have release paperwork.



They do not discuss things with you one on one they'll discuss confidential matters in front of the whole class, and talk about you with other students - they act as if they're still in high school. They specifically told me and another girl that we had to wear make-up, so I went out and got new make up - even though I tried to explain I was a full time student [32-38 hours a week] and 34 weeks pregnant and that sometimes I just didn't feel good enough in the morning to put it on, although I did always brush and pull my hair back and always looked clean and was well groomed [but then I was told ponytails were not allowed], but face make up and mascara weren't enough.



They brought us all out on the floor, told us WE HAVE TO WEAR MAKE UP and told us not to question it. It was in our contract, and that if we didn't wear it we would be sent home.



and I was constantly harassed and ridiculed about my clothing - even though it was with-in dresscode, because they didn't like my maternity clothes. I was forced to state infront of everyone that, because I was in school and taking an income loss that I didn't have money to constantly buy new clothes and that I was getting bigger so I didn't know what would fit me from week to week, which embarassed me when they could have taken me aside. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO STATE THAT INFRONT OF ABOUT 30 GIRLS AND SOME CLIENTS AND ALL OF THEM BY THIS TIME LISTENING.



I'am not the only girl that they do this too - ask around. Another girl also asked if she could sit - obtained a doctor's note and was told to stand and rushed herself to the hospital - due to complications.



I had to withdraw, because they harassed me so bad infront other students. I WAS SO EMBARASSED! PLUS IMPLIED THEY DIDN'T WANT PREGNANT WOMEN GOING TO SCHOOL THERE.



I never went back. I filed a Civil rights complaint- The treatment is horrible.... I wouldn't want anyone else to have to withstand this treatment. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY GET AWAY WITH IT.



The crazy part is your a student. You pay them to come here, and employer's would treat you better then this. You have to ask to go to the bathroom or even get a drink.




DO NOT GIVE THIS SCHOOL 17,500 DOLLARS, THEY WILL TREAT YOU HORRIBLY, INSULT AND HARASS YOU INFRONT OF CLIENTS AND FELLOW STUDENTS.



TRUST ME I WOULDN'T EVER WANT TO LEAVE A SCHOOL I HAD 350 HOURS OR 17,500 DOLLARS INVESTED - NOT TO MENTION ABOVE A 90% GPA....




I LOVE COSMETOLOGY - WELL I DID, BUT NOW I'M NOT EVEN SURE I WANT TO DO THIS

THEY PUT A REALLY BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH - THEY'RE WAS ALSO SUPPOSEDLY A "PREGNANCY FIRST" PETITION PASSED AROUND MY CAMPUS BUT I WASN'T THEY'RE WHEN THIS HAPPENED SO THIS MAY NOT BE TRUE, AND I FEEL SOO SOOO SORRY FOR MY GIRLS THAT ARE STILL THEY'RE - ESPECIALLY THOSE PREGNANT, BUT EVEN THOSE THAT AREN'T.


IS THIS PROFESSIONALLY ACCEPTABLE?


EXPECTANT MOTHERS ESPECIALLY BEWARE, DO THE RESEARCH AND JUST BECAUSE ITS BEAUTIFUL ON THE INSIDE, MAKE SURE THE PEOPLE ARE GONNA TREAT YOU LIKE YOUR HUMAN.
