I researched Honda cars on line looking for pricing and availability for a Honda CR-V. Several responses came in from two dealers in my home town and from Right Honda in Scottsdale AZ about 150 miles from my home. Right Honda Sales department called me and convinced me I should travel 150 miles to their dealership for better pricing and trade in value for my car. So off I went.

When I got there and test drove the CR-V I realized this car was not for me. I did see another care I like, the Honda Accord Crosstour and felt it work better for my needs. After crunching numbers I realized it was to expensive and I said, " I guess I can't buy a car today as I cannot afford this car".

The dealer sales representatives started to talk about a leasing. I was very reluctant and was very much against leasing as I did not understand the process at all. The CR-V I was looking at I was quoted about $350 a month based $28500.00 for the car. Sales said it would cost about $600.00 a month for the Crosstour was about. The sales representatives said I could lease the Crosstour for $350.00 a month and I could afford the car. Still very uncomfortable with the lease I did agree based on what I thought was going to be a fair deal for my trade in and sales price of the car.

Then I went to the Finance office to close the deal. The $350.00 price was gone, now it was $368.00 and I said no not what I was quoted. The Finance manager told me he could reduce the payment if I would agree to only using 12,000 mile per year instead of 17,000 mile because "never buy extra miles if you plan on trading in the car at the end of the lease". He tore up the contract, went to the sales office and came back with a new one. Now being real confused about what was going on the new contract was $375.08 per month. I'm tired, frustrated and need to get back to Tucson.

Looking over the figures and asking questions about all the fees, I questioned the numbers because they just didn't seem to add up. Using terms I was not familiar with he convinced me that everything was in proper order and signed I the contract.

All seemed good until I got my first monthly statement. First thing I noticed was the pay off was $32595.11. I was in shock because the car list price was $35595.00. with $8000.00 down payment equity I had in my trade in, doing simple math the balance should have been about $27595. Assuming they were going to give me the same like kind "deal" for buy out of my local market the car should have sold for about $32900.00 as this is what my local dealer is quoting. using the $32900 figure my balance should or could have been about $24900.

I took out the lease agreement and started to read more carefully and looking up lease terms. First major problem I discovered was "Gross capitalized Cost" or sale price of car. Sale price was $38,028.43 or $2033 up and above the sticker price and $5100 more than what the customary and usual selling price.

Now I am very upset and contacted the dealer and now all the leis started. The first lie was he said we lost $2000.00 on my car as he sent it to the auction. As of today 07/05/2010, the date traded in was 06/13/2010 and my trade in is still available for sale on their lot as I called to inquire about it. The sale person said it was a nice car traded in by a snow bird. The next lie was when I asked why my payoff was so high after giving a large down payment he ais to me they pay off would include taxes.

Summary of all this is I felt I very much taken advantage of and mislead about prices, fees and conditions of lease. The $8000.00 down I paid all went into the dealers pocket. I lost all my equity. I can appreciated and understand dealers need to make a profit to stay in business and continue to provided goods and services to the community, but to make a huge unreasonable profit is unethical. Yes, I should have know better and demanded a more clear explanation but I "trusted" them to provide a like kind deal comparable to the car I originally wanted to buy. Do not "trust" this dealer to look out for you.

I called Honda Financial Services today and asked them about the lease and they confirmed that the lease was contracted for the sales amount (gross capitalized cost) of $38028.43. They also confirmed that the MSRP was in fact $35550.00. I asked why was there an additional $2500.00 added to the MSRP. Their response was it did not include extras like, accessories or extended warranty which there were NONE. Right Honda not only did not disclose to me what I was paying for the car, when I asked they sidesteped the answer with a bold face lie.
