I almost had my car towed by Robert's Towing, Inc. today. I was never more than 100 yards from the car, and wasn't out of it for more than 30 seconds when they had it up in the air behind my back. The driver couldn't have missed me; he was pulling into the lot when I was getting out of the car. The least he could have done was yell and let me know. Instead, when I ran back to the car, he told me that I had to pay $50 then or $130 later.
He started by saying that for all he knew I could have left the car there for hours then, when I showed him the engine was still warm, said it didn't matter. It was obvious that I wasn't going to get out of this without the bribe he wanted, so I just paid it, but I don't want this company to think that what they're doing is right.
There have been a LOT of other folks in the same situation when I searched for Roberts Towing online, over half of what I found in the first few pages was complaints about them. I've been towed before, and I've paid the money, gotten the car back, and haven't complained. This move was just predatory.

Did the sign read:
It's ok to park here illegally if there are other available parking spaces?

No, my assumption was that if someone else wanted to park in the 5 minutes I would have been gone from my vehicle, they would park in one of the dozen empty spaces in the lot. The tow truck blocked people from parking for longer and more effectively than I could have.

Did the sign read:
It's ok to park here if you stay within 100 yards of your illegally parked vehicle or was that your assumption?
