Salon PS takes good paying jobs away from senior stylists

AUTHOR: Joey - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, October 01, 2015

I worked in a very nice salon in a senior independent/assisted living community.  I provided my own equipment and supplies and paid a minimal commission in the form of rent to the facility management.  There were 4 of us working as independent contractors, all retirement age and living on limited incomes.  Many salon jobs do not provide well for their employees future and this gave us a chance to live a more comfortable lifestyle, pay for our health insurance and have some security. Being older, we all were able to do the type of weekly styling the clients in our facility desired.  During the time I worked there I was never aware of a complaint against any of us or our work.

Then Salon PS came in and I suppose it sounded good to management, SRG Resource Group, as they would not have to deal with collectiing our monthly rent.  We really caused very little extra work for the manager, but unfortunately for the owners of these facilities, the bottom line is more important than providing their residences with what they desire and what is best for them.

Salon PS did interview us, but were not interested in us as we were used to being I.C.s, and of course we weren't interested in taking a drastic cut in pay for the same work.  Although we really became attached to our clients - many were like family and called us for weeks begging us to come back after Salon PS took over.  Of course, we had no control over the situation.

Unfortunately, Salon PS and similar companies are taking over all of the upscale senior living facilities and it has become very difficult for a senior like me to find a similar job.  Since I'm now in my 70's I'ts very difficult for me to work a full schedule and help some of the older people in wheel chairs with extreme disabilities.  However, nursing home jobs seem to be the only ones available for I.C. so I do my best.  I do enjoy the people so very much and can identify with their stage of life and the difficulty of change in today's world.  I think they really appreciate that.  I know that I do.

Shame on Salon PS and others that are taking these opportunities away.

You must be having a bad day?

My husbands job relocated us and I sadly left 30 years of clients behind.

Salon PS pays me as much ad I would in any commission salon.  Working  with senoirs was new for me but I really enjoy the work.

I'm happy you make that much money, but as you know in this industry starting out in a new area  requires time to build clients.   We plan on moving in a few years, so I didn't find it neccessary to build clients in a public salon.

Working for Salon PS has been rewarding and fair, reguardless of some disgruntled stylists comments.

Sounds like you have a great business going for you.  Have a better day.

It's no wonder

It's no wonder you shouldn't work with senoirs.  You are crude in the way you speak of physical problems that they might have.  I work for Salon PS and I'm paid more commission than that and I except tips.  If you are paid less and are qualified, why don't you choose another place to work

absolutely wrong

SalonPS has went into senior care facilities and made every effort to create a wonderful place for seniors to receive quality salon care. To qualify to work for SalonPS, a licensed stylist must successfully demonstrate abilities in hair care and styling techniques.  They must have a caring and compassionate personality to work with seniors.

When SalonPS would take over the responsibilities of a salon, they invited all current stylists to go through the interview and hiring process, which is a correct thing to do.  Stylist are offered a fair commission and other benefits.

I have 32 years experience as a stylist. I've worked in (3) SalonPS Salons in Colorado.  I love the work.  In all of the SalonPS salon I been in, there aren't any 18 yr olds employed there.  Even if there were 18 yr old, what difference would it make, they have to be a licensed cosmetologist and PASS the interviewing process.

When I excepted the stylist job with Salon PS, the residents that I took care of, thanked me many times over for being there.  They explained that before SalonPS took over the care of the salon, the old stylist was rough and did terrible work and they had no choice but to go to her.  I make sure they get the best salon care possible and they and the staff appreciate it.  I can assure you that my personal experience with Salon PS has been a positive one.

Salon PS is a good company

AUTHOR: Stylist - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 29, 2012

I am an employee of Salon PS working in a Las Vegas community, and I have been very pleased with the company and support I've received.  I worked as an independent stylist for 10 years prior to taking the position at Salon PS.  The interview process included a one on one interview and a haircut/styling demo.  This company wants to ensure that all employees are experienced and skilled stylists.  When we took over the existing salon we remodeled the space into a beautiful, modern shop.  All the residents were very pleased with the work and improvements.  We offer a variety of services that are priced appropriately for a senior facility.  As an employee you are provided with all products, tools, and equipment.  The commission rate is fair and we are paid promptly biweekly.  Having a company like Salon PS in these senior living centers makes it easier to ensure reliability and good customer service, as opposed to having independentst stylists working as they please.  As stylists we begin working with a built in clientele that we can build upon and grow with time.  Salon PS is a good company to work for and strives to employ only professional and experienced stylists who have the patience and caring nature needed to work with seniors.

Seniors who are Well taken care of by Salon PS

AUTHOR: satisfied employee - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 28, 2012

So sorry that your information is not accurate, I am a licensed stylist for 29 years and as an employee of Salon PS can speak from experience.  Our stylists are well trained, experienced and love our residents who we are privileged to care for.
I have many co-workers who have been doing hair many years longer than myself, and I have never seen an inexperienced stylist with Salon PS.
I think it is great how so many pro stylists like me are finding Salon PS through different websites available now.  What a great resource for all of us!
