The truth about this place is that it is just a money maker. While I admire the owners for being able to find a niche and totally exploit it for their own gain, I have less than zero respect for what they are actually providing their residents. Their counselors came from The Gatehouse Academy in Wickenburg, which is now closed due to possibly the most fraudulant case involving a treatmant facility in Arizona history. This place, The Gatehouse Academy, was running illegal drugs and guns, laundering money, using unlisenced counselors and prescribing psychiatric drugs without the proper licenses. There are millions of dollars in pending lawsuits today, besides the ongoing care the residents need due to this debacle. They closed in March 2012, and the counselors found a home at the Scottsdale Recovery Center. Besides the shady counselors, their residents attend daily meetings that their house managers choose. These managers are a step above homeless, are in recovery themself and are using the position for their personal program. The meetings they attend, are public meetings that don't cost a thing, and again the house managers choose the meetings depending on their own drug of choice. My daughter entered their program due to opiate addiction, yet spent most of her time going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. The license on the wall was expired, had the wrong address on it and was eventually fixed with white out. The house was nice and furnished appropriately. There was no program ran at the house, no structure and a house manager that my daughter claims smelled like alcohol half the time. Their theoretical approach to counseling is so stale and they continue to try and disguise it as a holistic approach. What they provide is a place for someone to live for 30 days, nothing more, nothing less. I tried to speak to the representative on the phone, but she continuiusly told me she was too busy and would call me back. Not once did she call me back until I threatened to withdraw my daughter from the program. She them made up some ridiculous stort about my daughter and kicked her out.....and to top it off, one of the owners owns a bar.....very unethical people... $4000 for nothing except 11 days of AA meetings, hot dog dinners and falsely credentialed counselors. Thank You SRC...Karma is a b****.

Scottsdale Recovery Scam

AUTHOR: Mason - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 17, 2015

Scottsdale Recovery Center is owned by Chris Cohn and Alex Salcedo.

Alex Salcedo is originally from Mexico. For a while he owned shady nightclubs in Juarez Mexico with a business partner. Unfortunately his business partner was murdered and his killer was never found. In an attempt to evade either the people who were after him or perhaps the law, Alex left Mexico for good. He later moved to Scottsdale and eventually started his company “Scottsdale Recovery Center” and “Sober Living Group” with Chris Cohn.

Neither person has the credentials, expertise or funding to properly run a sober living business. None of the houses are owned by them or the company because they can’t afford to buy them, they are renting them and then claim they own the houses.

Liza Salcedo is the secretary and also happens to be Alex’s sister. I recommend getting everything in writing from her, because she’ll lie to you later if it benefits her or the company she works for.

While Chris Cohn claims to be in recovery, Alex still loves a drunken night out at the club with his friends.

Alex owns a bar so he both makes money off getting you drunk and when you want to stop drinking!

Here’s some other reports on this site I recommend you read before supporting this company

Chris Cohn

It's great to set and acheive goals, but I witnessed first had Chris does not use his license to help the patients. He is usually out of the office and if he is in his office his door he closed most of the time.

He and the staff were in a meeting with all the patients and the councelor explained a communication process to use to help with getting angry and not let it affect you to relaspe back into your addiction. The councelor asked Chris Cohn to role play a confrontational situation using the steps she had explained. In my opionion, Chris failed the role play and in my opinion he lost any credibility I had for him.

While I was there not once did Chris interact with me. As a co-owner of a business, I would think you would want to see and maybe talk to your clients. Possibly see how there needs could be met.Don't expect to get this from Chris. In my opinion, he is there to rip people off.

The most unprofessional person running the front office is Liza. She will tell unfounded information to your loved ones to get the patient to stay more months in the program. I was sitting in the waiting

area and overheard her saying to someone how their program needs to find ways to keep patients for 90 days and not 30 days.

Again, in my opinion Scottsdale Recovery Center can write all the rebuttals they want. Bottom they are a business and if you want to keep money coming in and a paycheck you will say and do creative things to keep the money coming in. If I would have read these reports before admitting myself in this program, I would not have wasted $5000 for only 2 1/2 weeks in the program.

I must say there are alot of truths to the teports listed.....I same things happen to me.

Scottsdale Recovery Center

In my opinion any patient/client planning to enter this recovery center should observe a day or two of what goes on with the program. When I enrolled in the program, I realized immediately it was not the same program the sales person said it would be. When I was at the one house, it was a coed facility without secure sleeping rooms for opposite sexes. The woman house mother had two days off consecutively and I being the only woman was left at night with no safety precautions taken into account for me. Every person in the house had access to kitchen knives, scissors, and other potential items that could be used for weapons. The main phone for the house was kept in a men's room.

In my opinion, this center does not provide adequate treatment to needs of each patient. House mgrs are not trained or licenced and are also recovery addicts.

Bogus Allegations, Once Again...

AUTHOR: SRC STAFF - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, October 25, 2012

To Whom It May Concern:

Nowhere on the website does it state that the Co-Owner and Founder is a licensed therapist. NOWHERE. Chris Cohn holds a Masters Degree in Addiction Counseling and is a a Nationally Certified Recovery Specialist. The NCRS accreditation is through AHHAP, which is the Association of Halfway House Alcoholism Programs. All applicants must be approved and have vast experience in substance abuse treatment settings. Not sure where this person is gathering her information but it's false.

Chris did apply for his LASAC, which is a Licensed Associate Substance Abuse Counselor. He is unsure as to what capacity he will be utilizing his license; it was more of a goal for him to get the license than anything, as setting goals, especially in early sobriety, is something Chris and the staff at Scottsdale Recovery Center instill in all the clients.

We gave this person two opportunities to return to us as a client and try and get sober. We will do whatever it takes to protect the well being, safety and sobriety of our clients at all times. We cant help everybody, we know that. We also know that often times the parents or family members are sicker than the clients, and we advise them to seek their own treatment.

It's unfortunate that this person spends a lot of her time slandering our organization because she feels we're incompetent as a treatment organization. What about the hundreds of people we HAVE helped and are now sober because of Scottsdale Recovery Center and living phenomenal lives? We know in our hearts we did nothing wrong or unethical here or in regards to any other bogus incident/allegation written on this website or any other website for that matter. We will continue to treat those who WANT to get sober and help change THEIR lives.

Thank you   Scottsdale Recovery Center

Unlicensed therapist and counselors

AUTHOR: carmela - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Scottsdale Recovery states they are licensed and have been though audits. Doen't mean they passed.  They received 7 citations. Does that mean they are doing a great job?

The reality is, THEY JUST HAVENT BEEN CAUGHT YET.

Their licensed therapist..lets see, the co-founder and owner, Chris Cohn, states in his executive profile he has a Masters Degree in Addiction Counseling.  Big deal.he is NOT a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor. He just applied for his license last week.

Lets take another name from their executive profiles.   Kurt Woodburn is listed as a Recovery Specialist and states he earned a degree in Chemical Dependency.  I am thinking that degree was probably on-line because since his release from prison in 2010, he doesnt appear to have received any counseling for his drug or anger problems. He just got off probation July of this year. I would say stating he is a recover specialist is false advertising.

Yes, do as the owner of the rebuttal says.  Go to the AZ Dept of Health and go to the medical examiners page on license verifications.  Kurt was denied a license to be a substance abuse technician for his unprofessional conduct.  He was also told to cease and desist from counseling which he was doing, knowingly WITHOUT a license. I wonder where he was working
when he was told to stop.

See how many people listed on Scottsdale Recoverys Center executive profiles actually have a license.  It appears there are 1 1/2.  One person has been a Licensed Associate Counselor for a little over a year & and the other person is a Licensed
Professional Counselor.  Yes, about 1 counselors.

I am sure there are more horror stories about this company.  People dont like to tell how they wereripped off by a place they trusted would help them.  I wanted their help.  My mom paid for them to help me.  I was high when I signed up and I left
because I was not ready.  I became sober a couple weeks later and asked for their help.
They weren't willing to give me more than the 48 hours of housing I had already received unless I could come up with ANOTHER $4000.00.

Are they really about helping the suffering addict?  I was suffering.
How could a weekend in their sober house without counseling justify the $4000.00 my mom paid?  I was sober when I asked them to take me back.   Unfortunately, I am back on the streets.

You be the judge.  Are they really about helping the suffering addict?

Completely False Allegations...

AUTHOR: SRC STAFF - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, October 22, 2012

To Whom It May Concern:

It's unfortunate that the ones who do relapse and get discharged are the ones on sites like this making completely false allegations. Hot dogs? Un-accredited therapists? Come on!! Really? We are a state licensed treatment facility, mandated by the State of Arizona and audited randomly throughout the year. Feel free to call the State of Arizona Board of Health Examiners and ask them any questions you want regarding our facility and how our audits have turned out. Our license # is BH-3813 and the name of our facility is Scottsdale Recovery Center.

This "Monte Christo" character has basically been flooding the internet, using ridiculous aliases, slandering our company and making false allegations all the while. Could this be a competitor? Maybe. Either way, unfortunately this illness, untreated, comes with a tremendous amount of issues and resentment. We have helped over 300 people, and have several hundred testimonials not to mention we have been showered and blessed with gifts , flowers, and donations for our services. Fortunately for us, we have hundreds of success stories that supersede a few negative ones.

We have NOTHING to do with Gatehouse Academy. Furthermore, do you honestly think the therapists had ANYTHING to do with Gatehouse closing? It was the therapists, particularly the ones we hired, that stayed without pay and helped get the clients into other facilities. It's not the therapist's fault that management failed.

Secondly, all clients receive 27 clinical hours a week, and 27 non-clinical (relapse prevention classes, recovery based yoga, meditations, life skills and equine therapy) So what you said below is a total lie. We are a 12-step based company and yes, all clients attend a 12-step meeting every day, but that's only a small part of our treatment program.

It's also very unfortunate that all the positive testimonials about our program, saying how we've helped hundreds of people recover from their addictions, are pushed down on review sites, and not viewable to the public. Only the lies, made up from people with names like "monte Christo," who make up completely ridiculous, slandering comments about our program are viewed. Everything this guy said about our company is a lie...Again, if you seek THE TRUTH the solution is simple: call the board that governs us and talk to them, don't believe these reviews.
